Description of the Position:

The Risk and Profitability Measurement (“RPM”) team is responsible for the attribution of capital and the analysis of the Accident and Calendar Year Return on Equity (“ROE”) for all Property and Casualty (“P&C”) lines of business. This position will provide the candidate with a holistic view of the P&C operations through capital allocation. The candidate will work with a variety of capital attribution, cash flow, and statistical models that assess risk and allocate underwriting equity. They will gain a high-level understanding of the various P&C lines of business and be able to analyze differences that drive variability in earnings. The candidate will have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with other teams across the organization.  They will also be responsible for monthly/quarterly reports used by senior leadership. The candidate will also support the development of presentations for executive leaders.

**Please note, candidates pursuing exams as well as those not pursuing exams will be considered for this role. This role can be part of our large Actuarial Student Program for an individual meeting requirements for entry into the program. **

Location:
This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement.  Candidates who live near one of our office locations will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).   Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

    Major responsibilities include:

    • Collaborate with Actuarial and Finance business partners in our review of loss and premium financial updates within differing budget and outlook updates.
    • Update, maintain, and develop reconciliation analyses and documentation to improve capital attribution and monthly/quarterly reporting process.
    • Monitor the monthly calendar year equity for P&C lines.
    • Support the pricing actuaries during the capital attribution and rate filing processes.
    • Update, maintain, and develop models used in capital attribution for P&C plan lines. This can include updating the analysis of swings from prior to review the impacts various model updates have to the P&C lines of business.
    • Educate the actuarial community and business partners about the capital attribution process and return on equity performance and analytics.

    Experience & Skills:

    • B.S degree with a major in Mathematics, Actuarial Science or related field of study.
    • +3 years of Actuarial, Business or Analytical experience.
    • Experience working independently as well as part of a team.
    • Demonstrates the ability to manage and prioritize dynamic workflows.
    • Working towards ACAS/ASA preferred, but related experience considered in lieu of actuarial exams/credentials.
    • Strong analytical skills, High proficiency in Excel required and experience with R/SQL preferred.
    • Excellent communication skills, effective at communicating actuarial issues to non-actuarial partners.

    Compensation

    The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

    $75,000 - $100,000

    The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
