Description
Emerald Publishing offers a platinum open access end to end publication service, called Emerald Publishing Services (EPS), to journals that are owned by institutions or societies. These journals are managed by a dedicated team of Publishing Services Managers who also play a key role in the development of EPS.
Reporting into the Account Management Lead, the Publishing Services Manager role involves managing a portfolio of social sciences academic journals (up to 20 titles), primarily UK and USA based, while building close working relationships with owners and editors of these journals.
Location: We perform at our best when we feel trusted and are able to choose an approach to working that suits us best, which is why we are a remote-first company. However, we also believe in face to face collaboration, and our UK colleagues meet once a month for team time and quarterly for company get togethers in our Leeds office, so we ask that you be within a commutable distance that you are comfortable with in order to attend the office on those occasions.
Day To Day We’ll Trust You To
- Successfully onboard newly acquired journals and editorial teams in collaboration with other departments
- Build productive and trusting working relationships with customers from the outset to ensure effective customer service
- Proactively and collaboratively manage any editorial and ethical matters for successful outcome
- Assist the editorial teams in submitting the journals to various indexing services
- Deliver journal statistics reporting on usage and citations of the journal by way of an annual publishing report
- Monitor actual article output vs contracted output to identify any need for increasing content
- Proactively offer relevant paid for additional services where identified
- Assist with the renewal of customer agreements and manage service interruption as required
You’ll Need To Have
- Proven journals publishing experience working to strategic priorities
- Excellent customer service skills
- Advanced relationship management/building skills, and an ability to work cross-functionally
- Very good working knowledge of the rapidly evolving academic publishing environment – for example, open research
- The ability to embrace innovation and new ways of working

Roles are advertised at a benchmarked market median rate. Offers will be made within a range of the median, depending on skills and experience.
