Job Title: Full-time Faculty

Department: College of Business and Technology

Reports To: Dean, Doctoral Writing and Research Center

FLSA Status: Exempt

Hours: Available to perform teaching, course development, and committee service responsibilities, as applicable, which may include evenings and weekends.

Location: Off-Campus, Remote

Job Summary

The Doctoral Writing Coach is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to doctoral-level students with scholarly writing competencies in both course work and their dissertation or final doctoral project. Coordination and communication between all stakeholders including the student, lead faculty-DBA, dissertation chair, and the Success Center. In addition, this position is responsible for executing all elements of a proactive student outreach strategy.

Essential Job Tasks Additional Duties May Be Assigned.

  • Collaborates on synchronous calls and meetings to discuss writing with doctoral students.
  • Consults with doctoral students to understand doctoral program expectations for writing.
  • Assists students in achieving competencies in scholarly writing.
  • Assists students in understanding the difference between a scholarly academic resource and a non-scholarly resource.
  • Assists students in finding and correctly using academic resources.
  • Works with students on understanding and alignment of dissertation/final project components.
  • Creates and conducts live and/or recorded tutorials that focus on different aspects of writing and APA formatting.
  • Coordinates resources and maintains communication between the lead faculty-DBA and dissertation chair.
  • Collaborates with the Success Center.
  • Promotes, maintains, and enhances workplace culture within the university.

Knowledge

  • English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Academic Processes - Knowledge of university guidelines, course descriptions, and academic terminology.
  • Clerical - Knowledge of office administrative procedures including word processing, managing files and records, typing, and other office procedures.
  • Computer - Knowledge of basic computer processes including word processing, web browsing, and Microsoft Office including Basic Microsoft Excel.
  • Mathematics - Knowledge of basic mathematics.

Education And/or Experience

Master's degree in English, Communication or Business Administration required. Doctoral degree preferred.

One to three years of teaching experience in an educational setting preferred.

Equipment Used

Full-time faculty are required to provide their own equipment. This includes:

  • Computer, telephone, and a printer with a scanner.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Blackboard, and internal database software.
  • Secure and reliable internet access with sufficient speed/bandwidth to perform job responsibilities is required.
