Job description

About the role:

The Senior Counsel, Litigation is an attorney with at least five (5) years of experience in a variety of subject matters at all stages of a dispute. This role will provide counsel across Conduent’s businesses, with a concentration on Conduent’s Government Payments business. Conduent’s Government Payments business is vital in assisting federal and state agencies achieve their mission of delivering electronic payments to those individuals who need them.

As such, the role will be responsible for counseling Conduent’s businesses in a variety of subject matters with a heavy focus on the payment services industry and its applicable statutes and regulations, including consumer protection laws. Candidates with experience in the Electronic Fund Transfer Act, Regulation E, and UDAAP are preferred. Experience with regulatory agency examinations is a plus. Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of litigation procedures
  • Analyzing disputes for potential liability and financial exposure to Conduent
  • Negotiating favorable resolutions of disputes
  • Understanding the requirements of relevant law and assessing Conduent’s compliance with it
  • Working closely with outside counsel on litigation matters
  • Assisting in drafting company policies
  • Collaborating closely with other Legal Department colleagues and functional support groups to provide general legal advice and counsel.
  • Providing updates, analysis, and recommendations to the General Counsel and other members of senior management


  • Qualifications:

    EDUCATION:

    • Law Degree from a top-tier law school
    • Licensed to practice law in at least one state.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Five years relevant experience

    SKILLS/ABILITIES:

    • Strategic and quick thinking
    • Ability to communicate fluently in English, including writing clearly and effectively in business and legal correspondence and reports.
    • Ability to negotiate diplomatically and effectively.
    • Keeping updated on laws and regulations
    • Mastery of “to do list” management, from prioritization to making sure responsibilities are not missed.
    • Comfort with adopting new technology
    • Ability to effectively present (orally and in writing) information to all levels of an organization.
    • High sense of urgency while maintaining the highest quality of work.

    KNOWLEDGE:

    • Fundamentals of the payment service industry
    • EFTA, Regulation E, UDAAP
    • Guidance from regulatory agencies, such as the CFPB
    • Business and financial acumen

For this position, actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. In addition to base pay, this position, based on business need, may be eligible for a bonus or incentive. The estimated salary range for this role is $132k-$190k.
