Compensation: $75,000-$85,000

Location: This is a remote position; however, it is required that candidates must be based in either the Los Angeles area or the San Francisco Bay Area (SF).

The West Coast Development Officer will lead the execution of a comprehensive regional strategy to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift and corporate prospects. This role is integral in building and managing a robust prospect pipeline while fostering strong relationships with RAINN’s major donors through a structured moves management process. Additionally, the position will focus on developing corporate partnerships for cause marketing and securing corporate grants to support RAINN's mission.

The successful candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in major gifts fundraising, 2 years of corporate development experience, and knowledge of planned gifts and fundraising software. A demonstrated ability to personally manage the entire major gift process—from identification through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship—is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Collaborate with the Director of Institutional Giving, create a regional strategy to raise revenue through major, planned, and corporate gifts to meet organizational goals.
  •  Utilize prospect research platforms to create pipelines of individuals and corporations that can make 6-8 figure leadership gifts.
  •  Plan fundraising events and special occasions to cultivate corporate and individual donors.
  •  Cultivate donors through ongoing interactions and communications to encourage continued contributions.
  •  Write gift proposals to high-net-worth individuals and corporations, create cases for support.
  •  Track all proposals and reports to ensure deadlines are met and planned for.
  •  Use the moves management system to prioritize donor outreach 
  •  Conduct in person solicitations.
  •  Manage a portfolio of 100-200 current and prospective donors
  •  Develop new individual and corporate funder relationships.
  •  Solicit planned gifts to raise revenue.
  •  Work with other development team members to ensure departmental fundraising goals are met.
  •  Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support the success of the Development program and advance RAINN’s fundraising goals.

Position Specifications/Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:

Required Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor’s degree is required.
  •  3 years of experience with major gifts work.
  •  2 years of corporate development experience.
  •  Familiarity with planned gifts is preferred.
  •  Familiarity with fundraising software is preferred. 
  •  Demonstrated ability to personally solicit major gifts from identification to cultivation to solicitation to stewardship.
  •  High level of motivation and assertiveness; self-starter.
  •  Ability to travel as necessary (up to 50%).
  •  Strong attention to detail.
  •  Proven time management and organizational skills.
  •  Highly creative, flexible, and adaptable.
  •  Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  •  Discretion when dealing with sensitive information and ability to discuss issues surrounding sexual violence.
  •  Must successfully complete a criminal background check (administered by RAINN).

  •  Must have vision correctable to a level where an individual can operate a computer, visualize text on a computer monitor.

RAINN headquarters are in Washington, DC. This position may be based regionally for someone whose residence is within the continental USA. Although this may be a remote role, it may require periodic business travel to our DC offices for on-site meetings and training sessions.
