Webcast Specialist
Advancement Department – Washington State Bar Association (WSBA)

Salary Range: $58,581 to $58,581 + Washington State Employee Benefits
FLSA - Full-time, Non-Exempt

Note: This Primarily Remote position must be eligible to work in the US and only within Washington State.

The WSBA's mission is to serve the public and the members of the Bar, to ensure the integrity of the legal profession, and to champion justice.

Purpose and Position Summary:

The primary focus of this position is to ensure the successful delivery of WSBA-CLE (Continued Legal Education) webcasts, webinars, and recorded programming in addition to supporting other WSBA online meetings, events and AV needs. The Webcast Specialist consults with WSBA staff and volunteer presenters from throughout the legal community on technical aspects of WSBA programming to ensure that they are comfortable presenting online and to ensure that the online attendees have an effective online experience and will want to return for more. This position serves as technical advisor for assigned live webcast seminars, webinars, and recorded training sessions from the WSBA Conference Center, other sites, and from the office for online only events.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for overseeing the live streaming and capture of recorded programs (webcasts, webinars, or training videos) for programs assigned:

  • Moderates/facilitates communication between the online audience and seminar faculty, if and as needed.
  • Oversees the control room on day of webcast, including trouble-shooting technical issues and advising on final decisions on faculty placement, shot selection, audio levels, etc.
  • Provides technical advice and support to WSBA staff and faculty to ensure the highest quality of delivery and capture.
  • Manages technical needs of faculty. In the absence of an Education Programs Lead, resolves onsite day-of issues related to faculty, audience, and length of program to ensure WSBA-CLE’s obligations as a preferred CLE provider are met.

Editing assistance:

  • Assist Digital Product Specialist with editing of audio and video recorded seminars, media backup and quality assurance, verifying run times for every audio/video product, and uploading content to content delivery networks for distribution.

Works collaboratively on assigned programs with Education Program Leads, CLE Program Coordinators, and occasionally with other departments of the WSBA, and the faculties of such programs, to ensure high-quality webcasts and online-only programs:

  • Serve as advisor and consultant on technical production; format; faculty presentation best practices; placement of faculty, audience, and presentation materials; event flow; and how decisions impact the online educational experience. This may include meetings or phone conferences with faculty and other staff to review program format, discuss best practices and expectations, and coach faculty on presentation skills for online audiences. Prepares collateral material (PowerPoint slides, hypotheticals, survey questions) by translating course material into media-accessible content for online attendees.

Customer service and communication:

  • Provide direct customer service and communication to members to ensure they are comfortable with the technology and have a smooth and enjoyable experience as attendees of WSBA online programming.

Assist with process and procedures:

  • Assist the Broadcast Services Manager and Digital Product Specialist to establish processes and procedures related to capture of programs (video and audio), including interfacing with outside vendors and training staff to execute processes and procedures.

Other duties:

  • May be asked to serve as second moderator or technical advisor for large or specialized webcasts.
  • Deliver programs to be webcast from venues other than the CLE Conference Center/webcasting studio as assigned, including interface with technical support staff at offsite venues to ensure uninterrupted, high- quality webcasts.
  • Support broadcasting projects across the organization as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education Required:
  • A minimum of 2 years of college technical training or certificates in A/V and electronic media, or equivalent professional training and experience.
Education Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in broadcast production; training/certificates in electronic media (i.e., video/audio) including Internet delivery of products.
Experience Required:
  • A minimum of 2 years of producing live broadcasts and/or online programming. Some non-linear editing experience, preferable Adobe Creative Suite.
Experience Preferred:
  • 4 years of producing live broadcasts and/or online programming
Competencies (Skills/Abilities) Required:
  • Video and audio set-up and troubleshooting. In-depth knowledge of computer hardware and software programs used in capture and delivery of electronic media.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Initiative and confidence to make on-the-spot judgments and quick decisions to resolve technical production issues that will frequently be of first impression.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Audio/visual equipment: including video cameras, mixer; sound equipment (i.e., sound board) and advance software programs in addressing both analog and digital processes.
  • Competence with Webcasting applications and Premier editing software.
  • Solid understanding of computers and high comfort level in learning new programs.
  • Office equipment including copiers, desktop/laptop computers; fax machine; scanners, etc.
Competencies (Skills/Abilities) Preferred:
  • Knowledge of hybrid (live and online) event production, lighting skills.
Working Conditions: 

This position, while primarily remote, must be flexible to work in office or travel within WA state that will require overnights and weekends for several (approximately 4 to 8) multi-day events per year. This position may also have the option to work in-office. For remote work, must have an adequate home/work environment and internet access, for performing work of a highly sensitive and confidential nature.

Employment with the Washington State Bar Association mandates that WSBA Staff must reside within the State of Washington at the time of hire, and during active employment status.

The essential functions of the job that must be performed, with or without a reasonable accommodation: This position must be able to regularly work five days per week in an office type environment (remote or in office), possess the ability to primarily sit/stand and use a computer, and lift/push/pull items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must have ability to set up cameras, microphones, microphone lines, projectors, and screens that could involve crawling under tables and going on stage. Must be able to operate a computer keyboard, and other standard office equipment (e.g., printer/scanner/fax/telephone). This position must be able to read, write, and speak with others in English.
