Title: Grant Writer 

Location:  Redmond, WA

Work schedule:  Full time, 40 hours a week, Hybrid: remote work from home and in-person/onsite.   Schedule typically M-F, 8am – 5pm with some flexibility.  Very occasional evenings and weekends required for events.

The career opportunity: 

The Grant Writer will have 3+ years’ experience in the grant writing field and be able to demonstrate their ability to work independently as they identify, cultivate, solicit and steward potential grant sources on behalf of Hopelink’s programs and services. In partnership with the Development Director, Giving the Grant Writer will strategically engage with current and potential funders, with the goal of working toward the agency’s mission, department strategic planning and goals. The candidate will need to retain a strong understanding of agency programs, projects and associated funding needs. This role is under the supervision of the Development Director, Giving, and is a member of Hopelink’s Development department.

  • 3+ years of experience in grant writing with demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and techniques related to grant seeking.
  • Ability to distill complex agency needs into clear, compelling, targeted funding requests.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships with potential and current grant makers.
  • Experience with nonprofit fund-development databases – Raiser’s Edge a plus.
  • Computer/technology proficiency: ability to use MS Office 365, MS Outlook, and online systems including timekeeping, and program specific systems, etc.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable personal transportation and proof of automobile liability insurance. 

Examples of what you will be doing:

  • Manages a portfolio of approximately 100 current private and corporate foundations.
  • Conducts on-going research of potential grant sources for match with Hopelink’s programs and mission.
  • Acquires and maintains knowledge and understanding of Hopelink. Uses that knowledge and understanding to better comprehend all programs and projects for which grants will be written.
  • Stewards all grant makers through acknowledgement letters, regular reporting, and invitations to tours, events, etc. as appropriate.
  • Works closely with program staff to ensure accurate, current program information is available for grant applications and reports.
  • Researches and collects external data on community needs related to Agency programs for grant applications and use by other development staff.
  • Obtains feedback on declined applications, shares with directors as appropriate, and documents decision to reapply or not.
  • Works collaboratively with Development team on strategic planning to meet department and agency goals.
  • Creates engagement opportunities to build relationships with funders.
  • Develops an annual engagement calendar with the Giving Team, which serves as part of the greater departmental calendar.

  • Compensation: $30-$32/hour    DOE
  • Up to 10 paid vacation and sick days annually and 10 paid holidays, 
  • Plus up to 7 paid float days available to use immediately; dependent on hire date and hours/week
