Learning Designer (One of: French, German or Spanish)

 

Overview

We're seeking a talented, French, German, or Spanish-speaking freelance Learning Designer to join our team in creating award-winning, one-to-one Hyperclass lessons, honored with the 2022 British Council ELTon Award for Innovation in Digital Education. As part of a global, collaborative team, you'll develop interactive, CEFR-aligned content designed to improve learners' French, German, or Spanish proficiency through real-world speaking tasks. You'll create engaging lessons that foster practical communication skills and align with our digital learning tools, working closely with content editors to ensure high-quality delivery. This remote role offers flexible hours and the opportunity to contribute to innovative classroom experiences.

Location: UK / Europe / North America / South America / Asia / Australasia.

This role requires remote work from your own location, with reliable access to high-speed internet.

About the Role

As a Learning Designer, you will:

  • Develop interactive classroom content: Create one-to-one lesson that focus on real-life, practical speaking tasks, enabling learners to practice communicative skills.
  • Structure lessons with clear progression: Design lessons with a sequence of tasks that guide learners toward achieving speaking outcomes, starting with introductory activities and leading to targeted speaking tasks.
  • Ensure level and theme appropriateness: Develop lessons that align with our French, German, or Spanish syllabus, ensuring the content matches the linguistic abilities of adult learners and adheres to the CEFR levels and themes outlined in the syllabus.
  • Collaborate on content creation: Draft lesson briefs, which include opening activities, practice scenes, and two final speaking tasks, to be handed over to the Content Editor for review.
  • Support blended learning: Design content that complements self-study materials, supporting a well-rounded learning experience.
  • Incorporate feedback: Revise and improve lesson briefs based on feedback from the Content Editor, ensuring quality and coherence before the final handover to the design team.
  • Participate in team meetings: Attend project-relevant meetings and training sessions to align with team goals and maintain consistent quality across lessons.

 

This role will be available for an initial period of 2-3 months and will require a minimum availability of 20-25 hours per week with the potential to extend the contract. Remuneration is project-based.

About You

You will:

  • Be committed to creating language learning content that meets the real-world needs of learners.
  • Be familiar with the CEFR and its application in developing level-appropriate digital lessons for adult learners.
  • Be motivated to create high-quality classroom content that aligns with project specifications and deadlines.
  • Be excited to work with cutting-edge classroom experience tools.
  • Be comfortable working in a digital environment with a globally distributed team.

Additionally, you will have:

  • Experience teaching French, German, or Spanish as a foreign language, ideally with experience developing teaching materials for online classroom content.
  • Strong pedagogical knowledge of French, German, or Spanish including the challenges learners from different language backgrounds face.
  • Relevant qualifications in language teaching, applied linguistics, or digital learning.
  • Some experience creating classroom content briefs for digital content design.

Candidates must meet one of the following language proficiency criteria:

  • C2 proficiency in French and at least B2 proficiency in English.
  • C2 proficiency in German and at least B2 proficiency in English.
  • C2 proficiency in Spanish and at least B2 proficiency in English.
