Description

Summary

The Lifelong Post Adoption Specialist helps clients overcome issues that may arise from their experiences with adoption.  The Specialist is responsible for delivery of direct social work services to CHS or to other agencies’ clients for whom services have been contracted, and for the associate record keeping and reporting. This position is also involved in public relations and education efforts for Post Adoption. 

Primary Job Functions

    1. Duties
      • Provide post-adoption services to CHS clients or to clients of other agencies for whom CHS has contracted. Services may include:
        • Provide legally permitted information to members of the individuals as NC policy allows including a review of medical histories
        • Review and interpret background information
        • Determine and implement intervention/service plan
        • Coordinate individual, group or family member counseling
      • Maintain complete and accurate records on all services provided, and submit accurate and thorough reports on a timely basis
      • Advocate for sound adoption services before/after adoption

Outreach and Recruitment

    • Participate in public relations and education, including media contacts, speakers’ bureaus, working with volunteers and board members on fund raising, advocacy, or public awareness events and networking with other agencies regarding adoption issues
    • Create a community awareness of the agency’s services, and follow up on individual requests for post adoption assistance

      • Display sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics
      • Demonstrate the CHS Mission, Vision, and Values in the performance of all job duties.
      • Develop a strong knowledge base and stay current on job-related issues and trends.
      • Participate actively in departmental meetings, training, and education, as well as the quality process.
      • Comply with CHS’s code of conduct, policies, procedures, and other obligations.
      • Perform other duties related to department goals and projects as needed.
Qualifications

Education, Licenses & Certifications:

      • BSW or related human services degree, required

 

Experience:

      • 5 years’ child welfare experience; minimum of 5 years’ adoption related experience

 

 

Competencies

Skills and Proficiency in:

    • Strong organizational skills, resources development and budget development experience a plus
    • Strong working knowledge of human service systems for youth, young adults, and families and an ability to bring together and collaborate with diverse community partners
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills with proven effective organizational and time management skills
    • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Applications as well as electronic data systems, time sheets, expense reports, use of virtual platforms for meetings)

 

Ability to:

      • Ability to work independently from a home office and maintain adherence to deadlines.
      • Must be physically able to use standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines 
      • Must be physically able to transport clients in own vehicle, conduct on-site visits, and able to lift/move up to 25 pounds while supporting needs of the clients
      • Frequent travel required
      • Availability for occasional evening and weekend hours
      • Maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license, adequate auto insurance, and have access to an operating vehicle to attend to CHS business

 

Schedule Expectations

This position is a salary exempt job that will require some weekends, and evenings work. Along with working our standard scheduled week. The ability to work flexible hours is required to meet business needs. If working remotely, will be required to be available by telephone and email during specified hours as required. Frequent travel required to conduct business-related activities.
