CopperPoint has an exciting opportunity for an Actuarial Manager. The Actuarial Manager performs analytical functions having strategic and financial impact to corporate and long-term success. This position is responsible for the quantification of reserves, pricing levels and forecasting. Duties emphasize proactive, independent analysis, are cross-functional in scope and have corporate-wide impact. The person in this position must demonstrate expertise in multiple functions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Reserve Valuation – Maintain the company’s reserve adequacy by quantifying reserves for the various companies, lines of business, states and business segments. Identify and analyze significant changes and trends and seek operational reasons for the changes and trends through discussion with the VP, Lead Reserving Actuary and key personnel in Claims and Underwriting. Present results and recommendations to the VP, Lead Reserving Actuary. Coordinate and implement the resulting reserves with Financial Reporting.
  • Pricing – Provide rate support and determine adequate pricing of risk. Also may conduct studies of risk segmentation and market analysis. Will help with peer review of other analysis. Perform loss evaluations to assist Underwriting with pricing large accounts.
  • Data and Predictive Analytics – In coordination with Product Development, Business Intelligence, Underwriting, Claims and outside consultants, develop, implement and maintain predictive models. Apply industry knowledge to interpret internal and external data in order to assess risk and identify indicators and drivers of policy holder and claimant behavior. Make recommendations for operational improvements or new processes based on results.
  • Reinsurance – Prepare data requests and coordinate with Reinsurance brokers. Conduct internal analysis to determine attractiveness of reinsurer quotes and demonstrate ability to synthesize prior year reserves with existing reinsurance contracts.



The person in this role will be the go-to expert in one or more core actuarial functions. They will be a self-starter who proactively identifies and prioritizes new projects for the department. They will represent the actuarial department in their partnership with other departments like finance, data and analytics, underwriting, and claim.

Qualifications/Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance, economics or related field.
  • Membership (Associate or Fellow) in the Casualty Actuarial Society OR significant experience in actuarial job functions.
  • Five or more years of actuarial experience in reserving, pricing and product management/development.
  • Background in workers’ compensation insurance operations is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, decision making and oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to initiate, prioritize, plan, coordinate, review and ensure completion of work within time requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply actuarial, business and insurance principles and practices, utilize effective research methods and synthesize, analyze and interpret complex information. Develop innovative approaches for resolving business issues and problems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships and work in a team environment.



Salary Range:

  • $107,000.00 - $159,000.00 annually
  • Compensation may vary depending on skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
  • In addition to base salary, compensation may include an annual discretionary bonus.
