What You'll Do

Job Summary

Supporting Indirect Tax and supplemental Returns as part of the role in Compliance team for Sales & Use or other Tax types. This role is based within the Global Returns Services in Pune, India.

A demanding role where attention to detail is extremely important. Working with a range of different types of clients in different jurisdictions, providing regular Sales & Use Tax return filings along with all other associated filings (e.g. Prepayment returns, Local returns).

Candidates will be expected to have worked in a previous Tax and Accounting type function and be conversant with concepts such as Nexus,

Customer focused with excellent communication skills you will be able to explain and convey information clearly to clients.

  • Should have excellent domain knowledge about Sales & use Tax and experience in managing tax compliance for multiple jurisdictions
  • Having a very good e-2-e understanding of the of overall Indirect tax Process flow that would cover Registration & Licensing, Filing, Notice management, Back-filing, Refunds, etc..
  • Provide guidance to the Team on tax issues related and getting rid ambiguity in managing Compliance cycle
  • Statutory changes - Juris level changes to be figured from the point of view of Filing, Prep process or Forms. Identify and escalate state specific issues that require broader company engagement due to risk/complexity
  • Risk management - Evaluate existing Processes and incorporate changes to make the process risk averse in an ever-changing Indirect tax space with regards to Compliance Return filing
  • Should have very good grasp on Avalara’s processes to ensure profitability is maintained and any solve for blockers that would impact the org financially
  • Strong foundation to understand Customer’s data flow to manage Customer’s Tax compliance tasks and remove flaws in our current processes
  • Work closely with the Product and Engineering teams to develop ways to improve and strengthen our existing Tools and Systems
  • Analyse data and provide insights to improve automation on sales and use tax compliance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (i.e., up-stream and down-stream processes) to gather requirements, design solutions, and implement automation initiatives
  • Develop and implement automation strategies for the sales and use tax returns filing and other subsidiary activities
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve existing tax compliance processes potentially to improve automation
  • Collaborating with all the stakeholders on-site to understand challenges / blockers thereby working with the Local management to bridge gaps
  • Work with the Training to plan and conduct internal trainings for the team members
  • Proactive participation in managing various compliance projects, process improvements and driving change


What You'll Need to be Successful

Qualifications

  • US SUT related compliance knowledge and work experience (8 - 10 years)
  • Should have a graduate degree / MBA in Finance flair to drive Automation
  • Experience in building or part of the overall team to build Systems, solutions
  • Team player with Project management capabilities
  • MS Excel proficiency (intermediary to Advance) skills. Other MS office apps proficiency
  • Excellent communication (oral and written)
  • Experience in working with onsite teams/stakeholders
  • Flexibility to work in shifts to support US hours
  • Teamwork-oriented with a strong focus on customer satisfaction
  • Attention to detail, with a drive to continuously improve
  • Results-oriented, highly organized, motivated and driven to succeed
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Self-driven, result oriented and adhering to deadline
