Job description

The CDC Foundation is seeking a candidate for a full-time Technical Advisor position to support the Data Impact (DI) Program within the Data for Health (D4H) initiative. The DI program aims to assist countries in disseminating and utilizing public health information to inform decision making. This position will work closely with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) subject matter experts and CDC Foundation project staff to provide expert-level support and guidance, acting as a key resource for data analysis activities including developing and implementing trainings focused on data analysis and use, as well as assisting with the development of strategies to support countries in utilizing data for decision making.

The Technical Advisor will leverage expertise and experience in data analysis, training implementation, mentorship, project management and program development to support D4H partners. The role will support data analysis activities and trainings, as well as assist countries in workplan implementation. Strong communication and teamwork skills are of absolute importance to succeed in this role.

This is an outstanding opportunity to work with the nation’s lead agency charged with protecting the public's health. The Technical Advisor will be hired by the CDC Foundation and work closely with the Global Public Health Systems Branch of the Division of Global Health Protection in the Global Health Center.

Atlanta-based applicants are preferred, but not a requirement for consideration. Relocation expenses are not included.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance to D4H countries focused on data analysis and use. Technical assistance includes implementing data to policy trainings, data analysis trainings and other activities to support data use as identified
  • Support development of data analysis trainings and strategies to support country work
  • Complete an environmental scan of existing data analysis trainings within the initiative and partner organizations to inform future training implementation
  • Serve as a country focal point for 1-3 DI countries by meeting with partner country focal points regularly, providing relevant updates to the DI team and ensuring progress on workplan implementation
  • Support needs assessments to prioritize activities and identify opportunities for additional technical assistance
  • Serve as a mentor for deliverables including policy briefs that are developed during trainings
  • Participate in working groups and meetings related to utilizing mortality data and expanding data use, as needed
  • Support proposal development for future activities and funding opportunities
  • Represent the CDC Foundation and the project team at partnership events
  • Participate in and/or lead special projects and other duties as assigned

  • Qualifications and Necessary Skills
  • Master's degree in public health, public administration, epidemiology or other related field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience required with direct experience in providing technical assistance to low- and middle-income countries, preferred
  • Proficiency with both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis methodologies and monitoring best practices
  • Experience using computer software and programming, particularly packages for statistical analysis (e.g. SPSS, SAS, STATA, and/or R) and knowledge of computing platforms and data file construction
  • Ability to effectively communicate data analysis and use strategies and implications to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience in designing and implementing trainings in low-resource settings
  • Demonstrated experience building successful collaborations across diverse teams, influencing others, and providing guidance to internal and external partners
  • Experience working with international partners, government officials, and working in low- and middle-income countries
  • Ability to engage with, listen to and learn from a broad range of partners, encouraging their meaningful participation and developing productive working relationships with colleagues and partners
  • Strong project management skills and ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and stay organized
  • Experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and teams
