Your missions

Description

We are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader for the Education Policy Innovation Collaborative (EPIC), a respected research-policymaker partnership dedicated to advancing education policy through rigorous research. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence policy and practice in Michigan and beyond.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience using large-scale data sets to inform education policy, along with a background in multi- or mixed-methods research. Scholars from diverse disciplinary backgrounds, particularly those in economics, sociology, political science, policy, or education measurement, are encouraged to apply.

Role And Responsibilities

As the Director of EPIC, you will:

  • Lead and manage the center's strategic initiatives and research agenda.
  • Build and sustain strong partnerships with state government, local school districts, agencies, and other stakeholders across Michigan.
  • Collaborate with EPIC’s managing director, research and administrative staff, and affiliated faculty to produce high-quality, timely, and impactful research that supports education policymakers and practitioners.
  • Secure external funding from government and philanthropic sources to support EPIC’s mission of providing consequential research to improve education for Michigan’s students and educators.

  • Access to comprehensive state educational data sets through EPIC's unprecedented data-sharing agreement with the State of Michigan.
  • A team of dedicated researchers, staff, and affiliated faculty from the host university and across the country.
  • A strong track record of securing grants and funding for collaborative research projects.
  • Established relationships with policy and practitioner partners, along with a significant presence in state policy decision-making circles and media.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Doctorate in a field related to education policy and practice.
  • Current rank of full professor, or associate professor with a strong trajectory and experience influencing education policy.
  • Distinguished record of research and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Evidence of leadership in funded, large-scale research projects with policy relevance.
  • Proven success in obtaining external funding.
  • Experience effectively communicating research to partners, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the academic life of the college and university.

Preferred

  • Leadership roles in national or international professional associations.
