About the team:

Domain Knowledge is a brand new function focused on building services trades expertise through in-depth research across trades such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and more. By leveraging our trades expertise and deep understanding of the needs of our customers, we aim to drive a superior user experience and build customer trust. Our mission is to translate this research into actionable insights, inform strategic initiatives, and drive decisions across the organization by collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and senior leadership. This function will be responsible for developing and running the research process, building a knowledge base, disseminating information and insights across the organization and owning various inputs to our core content like the Homeowner Q&A. We work closely with several teams including product, design, analytics, data science, marketing, care, and operations.

What you’ll do:

As a Researcher for Domain Knowledge, you will lead the charge in leveraging our trades expertise to drive superior user experiences and build customer trust. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct In-Depth Research:
    • Lead comprehensive research projects on various service trades such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and more.
    • Gather and analyze data from primary and secondary sources, including interviews, surveys, industry reports, academic studies, and focus groups.
    • Assist in the creation of surveys, questionnaires, interview guides, and other research artifacts.
    • Present research findings to senior leadership and other stakeholders in a clear and compelling manner.
    • Produce visualizations, charts, and other tools to enhance the understanding of research outcomes.
    • Create internal presentations, reports, and other communications.
  • Develop Research Frameworks:
    • Create robust research methodologies and frameworks to ensure consistency, accuracy, and reliability of findings.
    • Implement best practices in qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Analyze and Synthesize Data:
    • Analyze complex data sets to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
    • Synthesize findings into clear, actionable recommendations and insights for the organization.
    • Monitor and analyze business trends and metrics.
  • Create Knowledge Content:
    • Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge content repository.
    • Produce high-quality research reports, white papers, and presentations that communicate findings effectively.
    • Create content and copy for the site, ensuring relevance across all markets.
  • Monitor Industry Trends:
    • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and market developments in the service trades.
    • Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement based on market trends and research insights.
  • Develop Industry Expertise
    • Build a network of contacts within the industry, including tradespeople, associations, and regulatory bodies.
    • Develop expertise in building trades, market conditions, and homeownership through desk research, focus groups, and surveys.
  • Track + Measure Impact: Define KPIs of individual projects, track impact, and drive iterative improvements to ultimately deliver on our mission of Jobs Done Well.

Who you are:

  • You have 3+ years of relevant research experience, with any trades experience being a plus. You have experience autonomously conducting market research with demonstrated impact.
  • A degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Journalism, Political Science or a related field is preferred, but equivalent experience will be seriously considered.
  • You can clearly articulate recommendations and decisions, both verbally and in writing, to various audiences.
  • You excel at turning research results into product insights and new opportunities, with a sharp analytical mind and proficiency in excel/google sheets. A familiarity with mapping user journeys and flows in design software like Figma is a plus.
  • You can unearth deeper meaning from qualitative data and present findings clearly using mediums such as customer journey maps, personas, and data visualizations.
  • You adapt research methods to meet the unique needs of multiple teams and invent new methodologies when necessary.
  • You have a meticulous sense of detail and can find simple or new solutions to complex challenges.
  • You have strong project management skills, able to monitor multiple projects simultaneously, overcome obstacles, and adapt to changing business needs.
  • You work well in small collaborative teams and can work constructively across design, product, engineering, and marketing.
  • You have a high aptitude for learning new skills and are enthusiastic about tackling new challenges.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • The salary band for this position ranges from $80-$110k base, commensurate with experience and performance. Compensation may vary based on factors such as cost of living.
