Your missions

Child Trends is seeking a senior research fellow to help build out our work focused on LGBTQ+ Youth and Families. The fellowship program is designed to allow current professors affiliated with institutions of higher education (IHE) to become formally affiliated with Child Trends. This position is not a full-time position and candidates are expected to maintain their current IHE affiliation. The position will caucus with our Parenting and Family Dynamics program area and will work across all areas to support existing and future work focused on LGBTQ+ youth and families.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience and expertise researching topics related to LGBTQ+ youth and families including publications in the peer reviewed literature. Additionally, the ideal candidate should have previous experience applying for and receiving federal research grants including those from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Institute of Education Sciences, and/or the National Institute of Justice. The candidate should be interested in supporting Child Trends by leading and supporting proposals as well as providing subject matter expertise to existing projects. We expect the fellow to contribute ~10 hours per month, with higher engagement during the summer.

Typical Duties

  • Lead and/or support the development of grant and/or contract proposals focused on improving the well-being of LGBTQ+ youth and families.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and equity reviewer across existing projects for products focused on LGBTQ+ youth and families.
  • Execute new research projects upon award.
  • Develop new products on LGBTQ+ youth and families in partnership with other Child Trends’ staff.

Qualifications

  • All applicants must have a current academic appointment at an institution of higher education. The selected candidate is expected to seek approval from their institution to establish dual-employment with Child Trends.
  • Doctoral degree in a related discipline (e.g., Human Development and Family Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Gender Studies).
  • Established track record of publications and grant funding related to LGBTQ+ youth and families.
