Hempel, a global leader in coatings and paints, is seeking a Senior Financial Controller to join our Group Reporting team. In this key role, you will ensure timely and accurate internal and external reporting, participate in monthly and year-end closings, and handle financial statement preparation. You will also support future growth through projects like M&A activities, finance integration, and the development of reporting processes to meet the increasing business complexity. Group Finance and Group Reporting are essential partners, often the first point of contact for complex accounting and reporting issues.

Here’s some of the other things you can look forward to

As a Senior Financial Controller, you'll lead monthly and annual closings, enhance consolidation systems, and tackle complex accounting issues. You'll also standardize processes, drive automation, and contribute to finance projects. Based in Hempel Headquarter in Lyngby, Denmark, you'll report to External Reporting Director and focus on:

  • Drive the monthly and annual closing process, including participating in the monthly consolidation process of the Group’s financial statements in accordance with IFRS and preparation of presentations to the Audit Committee
  • Improve and maintain our consolidation processes and system set-up, in joint responsibility with Hempel Digital (mapping, financial dimensions, etc.) as well as ad hoc support on technical issues
  • Analyse technical accounting matters and document proposal for the accounting treatment of complex transactions
  • Standardize processes collaboratively with individual business segments and our shared service center, concurrently maintaining and updating our Accounting Manual and global reporting instructions, supporting and coaching employees hereof
  • Drive and ensure execution of ad hoc initiatives and participate in finance related projects
  • Challenge the existing processes, improve and, automate processes to achieve best in class scalable operations
  • Support for various cross-functional projects with Group Treasury, Group Tax, Group FP&A and Group M&A
     

What do you need to be successful in this role?

As a Senior Financial Controller, you are a reliable, honest, and collaborative team player who operates with integrity, accountability, and a hands-on approach, taking ownership and working independently while supporting colleagues. Skilled in handling complex issues, you maintain high standards, balance theory with practice, and excel in dynamic environments.

  • Hold an educational background in finance, economics, audit, or a related field along with experience with IFRS accounting, Group financial processes and experience with Group consolidation, including experience with consolidation systems
  • A proven track record with several years of experience in financial controlling is required, an accounting qualification is a plus
  • Advanced Excel skills, experience in/knowledge of ESG and CSRD reporting is a plus
  • Have experience in driving optimization projects applying your theoretical strength to deliver and present new initiatives in an understandable and efficient way using a high level of both written and verbal English.
  • Track record of working in multicultural environment and ability to influence stakeholders at different levels
