Air Liquide Large Industries provides our customers with industrial gas and energy solutions that are vital to their own industrial production. We own and operate over 2,000 miles of industrial gas pipelines in the U.S. supplying mainly oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen and syngas in large quantities from multiple production sources to major customers in the chemicals, petrochemicals, refining and steel industries. Our pipeline operations and industrial gas production facilities are closely monitored 24/7 within our leading-edge operations control center located in Houston, Texas. Our operations control group monitors over 89,000 data points and assists with product supply and coordination. We are constantly optimizing our supply network to provide high reliability and energy efficiencies allowing Air Liquide to adjust supply needs more quickly and effectively enabling growth to our customers.

LI NAM is an energy-intensive company, aligning the sourcing and selling of large amounts of energy (electricity and natural gas), and developing new investment projects where energy management aspects are key elements of the business development phase. Energy Management is at the core of Air Liquide business model, competitiveness and profitability. It encompasses sourcing, procurement, regulatory activities, commercial structuring, portfolio management & transactional optimization.

The role of the LI NAM Energy Management team is to optimize the business energy portfolio (generation and load) and to mitigate risk exposures, both at operational and strategic level. The team drives daily and short-term operational transactions and defines mid to long-term strategies. LI NAM relies on subject matter experts in specific energy domains, able to provide expertise, direction, and leverage to the whole organization. The energy managers work in close contact, externally, with suppliers and energy markets, and, internally, with operational, commercial and business development teams.

The Energy Risk Analyst is a member of LI NAM Energy Management team and reports to the Energy Business Risk & Data Manager. The position is located in Houston, TX.

Analytics and strategy 

  •  Acts as the business analyst for the Energy Management team. Prepares historical and analytical reports. Supports ad hoc requests and analyses. 

  • In conjunction with Energy Managers, leads the development of new energy management projects and strategies (sourcing projects, sales projects, or portfolio level optimization strategies), through the detailed evaluation of business cases including sensitivity analyses, risk studies, computation

  • In conjunction with the SIO Center and with Energy Managers, establishes tracking dashboards to monitor and measure the results of tactical energy operations and transactions. Provides analyses and recommendations to improve such tactical operations. 

  • Delivers analyses based on tools and dashboards providing business insight on LI NAM energy metrics, energy margins, sourcing & sales strategies and transactions, to measure accurately the achieved performance and risk exposures, to facilitate decision-making and to provide recommendations to drive results. 

  • Coordinates presentations to Air Liquide Group Energy Risk Committee (“ENRISK”) for all required projects/transactions by LI NAM. Supports the preparation of ENRISK notes. 

Energy database and tools

  • Maintains the library of the energy indexation practices and language for sales contracts, and assists the Energy Managers in their interfaces with business development and commercial managers to design solutions for alignment between energy sourcing and selling. 

  • Maintains historical energy data and tools for the Energy Management team. Provides data and market summaries as required for new projects and for use in energy decisions. 

  • Manages for LI NAM all external data sources, services, subscriptions and consultancies related to energy, including budgets, contracts, administrative activities, and cost control.

  • In conjunction with Energy Managers, maintains the performance dashboards for key activities of the Energy Management team, including the monitoring of energy risk assessments for sales contract renewals and new sales contracts. 

Accruals and invoices

  • Supports the natural gas and electricity Energy Managers to compute the energy billing variables and to perform monthly energy accruals, in timely manner, with accurate internal and external data sourcing. 

  • Supports Energy Managers and Operations Control for monthly closings and in analyzing variances in monthly energy margins. 

  • Coordinates Energy Management’s input into LI NAM annual budgeting process and acts as Energy Management’s representative in the process.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business. 

  • Understanding of energy markets (both natural gas and electricity) – two to three years of exposure/experience to energy markets preferred. 

  • Very strong analytical skills and accuracy in data management. Ability to acquire and interpret external and internal data making links to business processes and financial performance, and to accurately analyze and organize complex/voluminous data to articulate business strategies. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; including the ability to produce accurate,

  • Strong computing skills including high level of knowledge of spreadsheets; Proficiency in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Familiar with financial and business reporting systems a plus 

  • Innovative mindset, information-seeking, and adaptable attitude toward solutions.
