Your missions

Description

We're excited to invite a talented Database Systems Engineer to join our dynamic development team! In this role, you'll play a key part in shaping and enhancing our database features, guiding them from technical design through to implementation. Your expertise in query parsing, optimization, and execution will be crucial, along with a solid foundation in algorithms, data structures, and optimization techniques.

About Us

We specialize in building cutting-edge cloud databases and a range of vertical solutions utilizing our advanced array system. Our innovative solutions cater to diverse fields such as genomics, geospatial data, imaging, and beyond. Established with a vision to address complex use cases, we have garnered significant support, including a recent $36 million Series B funding round announced in October 2023.

Our team operates fully remotely, with members across the USA, Europe, and South America. We maintain core business hours from 9 AM to 12 PM US Eastern Time. While our headquarters are based in Cambridge, MA, USA, we also have a subsidiary in Athens, Greece.

What You’ll Do

  • First 15 Days: Get acquainted with our fundamental array APIs and understand how they are applied across various applications. Our engineering team will support your onboarding process and prepare you to make your first contributions swiftly.
  • After 30 Days: Become an integral part of our team, actively contributing to and maintaining our libraries. You'll start designing and implementing new features with confidence and expertise.

What We're Looking For

  • Required:
    • Experience in database implementation
    • Proficiency in systems-level programming with Rust or C++
    • Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms
    • Experience in parallel programming and performance optimization
  • Nice to Have:
    • Experience with Apache Arrow DataFusion
    • Background in production distributed systems or high-throughput transaction processing
    • Knowledge of compiler development
    • Experience with filesystem implementation or integration (e.g., FUSE)
    • Familiarity with Cloud Object Stores (e.g., AWS S3)
    • Contributions to open-source projects
Perks & Benefits

  • Competitive salary and stock options
  • Comprehensive medical and dental insurance (including dependents!)
  • Paid parental leave
  • Generous paid time off (vacation, sick days, and public holidays)
  • Flexible time off and working hours
  • Opportunity to work remotely (anywhere in the US or Greece)

Interview Process

  • Initial Screening: 30-minute call with the hiring manager
  • Screening Test: Asynchronous test (may be waived for substantial prior open-source contributions)
  • Team Interaction: 1-hour call to meet potential team members
  • Final Discussion: Conversation with the CEO and CTO

If you're passionate about database systems and eager to make a meaningful impact, we'd love to hear from you!
