Your missions

Overview

As a Junior Asset Underwriter, you will work closely with the Manager of Asset Underwriting, focusing on the express swim lane process. Your role will go beyond merely fitting data into a predefined box; instead, you’ll use your strong understanding of Risk Management to analyze and form well-rounded opinions about loans. We're looking for someone who is comfortable articulating their analysis both verbally and in writing.

In this dual role, you will act as both Processor and Underwriter for a specific subset of non-complex loans. You'll manage a high-volume loan pipeline and collaborate with various departments and third-party vendors to ensure loans are closed on time and in compliance with guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Loan Pipeline Management: Oversee a high-volume loan pipeline, ensuring timely and compliant loan closures.
  • Vendor Coordination: Place and track third-party vendor orders, ensuring they meet agreed-upon timelines.
  • Quality Control: Review and verify documents such as title commitments, purchase contracts, and escrow instructions. Experience with non-traditional transactions like cash purchases or auction purchases is a plus.
  • Construction Loan Review: Examine documents related to Bridge, Renovation, and Ground-Up Construction loans, including budgets, permits, and certificates of occupancy.
  • Task Management: Set conditions needed for loan funding in line with underwriting guidelines.
  • Data Analysis: Review loan metrics and ratios, understanding the impact on the asset’s credit rating.
  • Lien Resolution: Work with title companies and third parties to resolve any outstanding liens.
  • File Preparation: Prepare and submit complete loan files for managerial review.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with multiple teams to coordinate loan closings.
  • System Updates: Maintain and update the internal loan processing system with accurate data and documentation.
  • Liaison Duties: Serve as the primary point of contact between loan originators, relationship managers, borrowers, and escrow agents.
  • Condition Review: Request and review pre-funding and post-closing conditions, ensuring they align with underwriting policies.
  • Problem-Solving: Apply analytical thinking to resolve complex issues, making decisions based on logic and reason.
  • Customer Service: Provide exceptional service and support to all parties involved in the loan process.
  • On-Site Presence: While some tasks may be performed remotely, an in-person presence is crucial for key responsibilities such as oversight, training, and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: 5-7 years of experience in mortgage loan processing, or 2-3 years in credit analysis/underwriting at a commercial bank. Experience in private money lending or construction finance is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of underwriting and funding processes.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with exceptional follow-through.
    • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to multi-task.
    • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment and handle pressure effectively.
    • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
