The Role: Providing leadership for our California Loss Control team, ensuring effective risk management and regulatory compliance.

As an Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Loss Control, you'll be based in California and play a pivotal role in our success. Here's what the role entails:

  • Leadership: Oversee and mentor a team of loss control professionals, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to excel.
  • Inspections & Surveys: Lead comprehensive loss control surveys and physical inspections of commercial accounts, providing underwriters with detailed and accurate descriptions of insured properties.
  • Risk Identification: Identify hazards and potential loss exposures, making
  • informed recommendations to mitigate risks.
  • Consultation: Collaborate with underwriters and other staff on account acceptability, exposures, and controls across various lines of business.
  • Accident Investigation: Conduct thorough accident investigations and loss analyses to determine causes and prevent future occurrences.
  • Training & Development: Ensure staff are proficient in sales and communication, capable of achieving compliance with safety recommendations, and provide necessary training to insureds.
  • Marketing Support: Participate in joint marketing presentations with Underwriting, Claims, and Marketing teams to engage with accounts and agents.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant Federal, State, and other codes and regulations applicable to Property, Liability, and Casualty lines of coverage.
  • Performance Management: Drive performance and development of the team, making decisions on talent selection and ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Policy Adherence: Ensure the department meets all policies and procedures, contributing to the development of strategies and performance targets.

Physical Requirements:

  • Continuous walking and standing.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Climbing, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, and crawling.
  • Overhead reaching and grabbing.
  • Conducting visual inspections.
  • Working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Frequent travel and potential operation of a motor vehicle.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Safety, Engineering, Insurance, Business, or a related field.
  • Generally, 10 years of related experience, including at least 4 years in a leadership role.
  • Preferred certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), Associate Risk Management (ARM), Certified Safety and Health Management (CSHMS), Associate Loss Control Management (ALCM), or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST).

The wage range for this job is based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skills, education, training, licensure and certifications, experience of the candidate, the role's scope, complexity, and other business and organizational needs.
