Public Relations Specialist (Volunteer/Remote)

Responsibilities And What You Will Do:

  • Serves as a liaison between the organization and the public.
  • Develops and maintains a positive public image for the organization through public-facing communication.
  • Responds to information requests from media contacts.
  • Writes, reviews, and/or distributes press releases and other public-facing communication.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with media outlets, consumers, government entities, and public interest groups.
  • Arrange interviews for the company’s executives and management.
  • Evaluates advertising campaigns to ensure consistency with the organization’s public relations strategy.
  • Develops and/or executes social media and content strategies to release information on the organization in a manner that will promote a positive public image.
  • Attends weekly department meetings and biweekly all staff meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


 

Here’s what we’re looking for:

 

  • Must be available to volunteer 8-10 hours a week
  • Extensive knowledge of public relations principles and strategies.
  • Excellent public speaking skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills with a proven ability to write in a journalistic style that is customary for external publications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with media contacts and outlets.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field preferred.
  • Prior related experience required.
