As we scaled up, we expanded our team of data scientists and engineers, who continue to grow and improve our unique data assets, methodologies, and technical infrastructure. We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our team to cover a Maternity Leave starting December 2024.

In pursuit of the goals and expansion of the data commons, GivingTuesday partners with key organizations to leverage their expertise to manage and lead different aspects of the work. These data & technology partners (DARO, With Intent) manage staff, projects, and ongoing functions for the data commons with dedicated staff embedded in GivingTuesday in those capacities in cross-functional roles. This role is one of these positions - managed by DARO but embedded in GivingTuesday’s Data Team.

Senior Data Engineer

Our data team builds and maintains the infrastructure and pipelines that deliver usable data to our network of researchers. Our Senior Data Engineer guides our development, focusing on building stable, scalable infrastructure and performant data pipelines.

In this role you will:

• Participate in a technical leadership role in which you will give input into how we architect and build our data infrastructure, data pipelines and processes
• Create and maintain architecture and systems documentation
• Update data pipelines to automate recurrent operations on core datasets for research projects
• Build and maintain data pipelines to efficiently ingest data from multiple sources
• Oversee any necessary improvements to our data processing and analysis infrastructure
• Plan and execute system expansion as needed to support the growth of the GivingTuesday Data Commons’ analytic needs
• Mentor, and manage a small team of Data Engineers

We are looking for someone with:

• Experience building modular and reusable ETL/ELT pipelines
• Experience with a cloud platform (we use AWS) and cloud data warehouse technologies (e.g. Snowflake, Databricks, or similar)
• Hands-on experience with data pipeline tools (Airflow, dbt, etc.)
• Strong Python programming skills
• Enthusiasm for working as part of a cross-functional team, collaborating with engineers, research scientists, analysts and other stakeholders
• Strong organizational and communication skills to ensure successful collaboration with different teams and individuals across GivingTuesday

We are especially excited to talk to you if have: 

• Experience writing and optimizing SQL queries
• Working knowledge of BI tools (e.g. Looker, Tableau, etc.)
• An ability to multitask and adapt quickly to shifting priorities

Salary range: The salary range for this position is $100,000 CAD to $130,000 CAD annually.
