Your missions

About the role:

As the Director, Actuarial Services, you will be:
-A mission-critical, early part of our growing finance team (and company)
-Building models and processes to enable high-impact care delivery at scale
-Collaborate with our highly talented product, engineering, clinical, and operations teams, who come from a variety of backgrounds.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Develop an efficient and sustainable monthly valuation process for medical expense, revenue and projected shared risk incentives
  • Work closely with engineers, analytics and FPnA to ensure preparedness and execution of the annual payer-provider contractual shared risk incentives
  • Develop, implement and maintain consistent process for data quality controls to ensure data integrity and make recommendations to improve data integrity
  • Conduct analytics and reporting using data from payer claims, CMS files, electronic medical records, and other sources to deliver actionable  insights to various  teams
  • Maintain clean and well-documented workflows
  • Work with team-members to develop and continuously improve best practices
  • Provider mentorship for junior actuarial, analytical and financial analysts

  • What makes you a fit for the team:
  • You approach your work with humility, recognizing that our system of care will need to learn and adapt to the needs of patients with complex needs
  • You show deep empathy for the needs of patients, clinicians, and your colleagues to change the fundamental paradigm of care delivery for marginalized patients
  • You have a distinctive ability to get a highly cross-functional group of stakeholders – technical and non-technical – on the same page
  • You come to well-informed opinions based on gathering the right information and data – but are open to changing your perspective when the situation evolves or new facts emerge
  • You focus on getting things done in the most effective, efficient manner for the task at hand – rather than following a specific process for its own sake
  • You have the resilience to dive headfirst into challenging problems – healthcare is complicated and there’s a lot to be fixed
  • You are excited to work in a startup environment, with the ambiguity and shifting priorities that might come with it at times

  • Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (ASA or FSA)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in actuarial valuation, specifically within the healthcare industry
  • Proficiency in actuarial software and advanced skills in Excel and other data analysis tools (SQL, Python, etc)
  • Ability to review new datasets for accuracy and consult with key stakeholders to contextualize data inconsistencies and the resulting impact to financial reporting
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Preferred
  • Experience working with government healthcare programs, such as Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid
  • Prior experience in Value-Based Care
  • 4 to 6 years experience with analytic and modeling tools and software (SAS, SQL, Python, R, etc)
