Exciting opportunity to lead a group of regional Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), have oversight of Medical Field Team (MFT) training development, and collaborate with a dynamic and growing Medical Affairs Department.
Position Summary
The Director, Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) is a field-facing member of the US Medical Affairs Department. This person is responsible for directly managing a team of MSLs by mentoring, motivating, inspiring, enabling, providing constructive feedback, and developing these individuals. The Director, MSLs will collaborate with Head Quarter content development in developing and providing oversight of the MFT training plan. Maintain regular communication and frequent collaboration with the Sr. Director, National Medical Field Team, Home Office Medical Affairs functional leaders, and Matrix team members. This position reports to the Sr. Director, National Medical Field Team.
Performance Objectives
- Responsible for oversight of MSL dashboards and product medical insights on a monthly/quarterly basis
- Develops and maintains relationships with top Scientific Leaders (SLs) in the geography assigned to direct reports
- Acts as a resource for MSLs in providing medical and/or scientific data when necessary about Taiho Oncology products and research for SLs/Health Care Practitioners (HCPs)
- Supervise MSLs in supporting IIT requests and submissions
Provide input to and collaborate with, the Medical Affairs Product leaders and Sr. Director, National Medical Field Team in the development of MSL team objectives, tactics, and metrics
- Hold direct reports accountable for the attainment of medical and business objectives in the assigned geographical territories plans, and prioritization of tactics
- Ensure timely and complete documentation of activities of direct reports to support department metrics including monthly and ad-hoc reports of MSL activities (sourced from individual team members, Veeva CRM, Insights, and/or assigned digital platforms, etc.) to Product Core Medical team leader
- Provide oversight and coaching to direct reports for field team performance reviews, approvals of expenses, PTO requests, and monitoring of MSL field compliance
- Collaborate and provide input to process planning and execution of training for MSL Field team in collaboration with Sr. Director, National Medical Field Team, Sr. Director, Scientific and Medical Communication and Director, Content Development.
- Be a role model for compliant and effective customer interactions for MSL team members
- Support the development and implementation of Individual Development Plans for direct reports
- Other assigned projects
Education/Certification Requirements
- A terminal D degree (i.e., MD, PharmD or PhD) or equivalent in medical or health sciences is strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in managing people in a medical field team role or MSL team e.g., in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries is required
- A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant clinical experience in a related disease area in a scientific or clinical setting is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership success in a managing role in a Clinical, pharmaceutical or biotech company preferred.
- Supervisory and management experience required.
- Clinical trial development experience is preferred.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical information and data.
- Individual should be able to apply critical thinking process to optimize strategic initiatives and decision-making.
- Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.

- Travel Required - 50-100%
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $205,000 and $242,000 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
