Department Overview

Graduate, Undergraduate and Equity Affairs at the UC Office of the President provides leadership and support for efforts that advance UC equity and inclusion, close equity gaps, promote access to and successful completion of baccalaureate and graduate degrees, and help to provide an exemplary University experience for all. Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Manager of Admissions Analytics, the position supports systemwide admissions operations and policy development and analysis, using advanced statistical concepts to explain and model impact of campus and systemwide admission policies and practices. Produces reports and briefings of findings and scenarios to properly inform key decision makers and stakeholders including UCOP staff, the Academic Senate, Regents, state agencies and legislative members, and intersegmental constituents. Contributes to setting the research agenda for undergraduate admissions to address on-going needs and emerging issues. This position is eligible for a remote work arrangement within the state of California. The selected candidate must reside within the state of California or be willing to relocate.

Key Responsibilities

40% Data Analysis, Decision Support, and Policy Development: Conduct multivariate and descriptive analyses using large datasets. Develop conclusions and recommendations for action based on research findings and summarized data in narrative and/or graphical form. Synthesize data and present it in a creative, clear and non-technical manner. Develop, coordinate and present policy briefings for UC leadership on important initiatives and high visibility and sensitive issues such as eligibility and admission policy, student access, enrollment, diversity and student success. Proactively identify trends, emerging issues and opportunities through environmental scanning. Contribute to an analytical agenda to inform policymaking consistent with the mission of the University of California and Undergraduate Admissions.

35% Campus and Committee Support: Provide analytic and policy support for standing admissions and academic preparation committees including the UC Academic Senate committees BOARS, UCEP and UCOPE. Develop a range of evidence-based policy options for systemwide and campus committee consideration. Respond to requests for information for a broad range of systemwide, campus, regional, state and national constituents. Conduct ad hoc analyses on behalf of campuses using systemwide data.

20% Communications and Collaboration: Present to a variety of internal and external audiences to interpret and clarify the impact of UC admission policies. Collaborate with Institutional Research and Academic Planning and Budget Analysis and Planning to lend content area expertise in admissions practices and admissions data. Maintain campus relationships to understand emerging and local issues.

5% Other Duties: Attends classes, seminars and conferences that enhance professional expertise and foster managerial competency. Participates in activities that enhance the UC community and support the university mission. Upholds the organization’s Principles of Community and assures that those values are upheld throughout the department. Other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills to independently interpret complex policies and processes.
  • Advanced analytical / problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency in data/statistics programs, e.g. SAS, SQL, Tableau, R, Python, SPSS, and similar tools (SAS and SQL preferred)
  • Thorough knowledge of data processing and analysis techniques.
  • Ability to produce high quality reports in a variety of formats, including the ability to design and prepare compelling graphs, tables and other visuals using Excel, Powerpoint, Tableau and/or similar applications.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing and in a non-technical manner as needed.

Travel Requirements

25% Unit supports UCOP and nine UC campuses. Travel to multiple locations is anticipated.

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
