Job description

The Manager, Scientific Affairs, Oncology, acts as a scientific representative for Hologic and its subsidiary Biotheranositcs. Scientific Affairs provides scientific input internally in order to align with the needs of the business, including advising the company of commercial needs, business units for increasing utilization and marketing team on customer product needs. The Manager is responsible for the exchange of medical and scientific data with physicians and other clinical professionals regarding Hologic laboratory services and products and as a purveyor of accurate and objective information in areas of scientific and clinical interest to the company. Participates in the management of key scientific studies (IITs) that are sponsored by Hologic or utilizing patient data generated by the Biotheranostics Clinical Laboratory in conjunction with internal partners such as the Medical Science Liaison team, marketing and R&D. Ability to effectively manage multiple scientific studies with external partners. Provides effective presentations to internal and external groups.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development and execution of high impact and comprehensive strategic scientific affairs plans to demonstrate clinical and/or laboratory value of Hologic’s oncology products.
  • Assists in the development and execution of strategic study, data and publication plans for IITs, and coordinate efforts of internal cross-functional teams including marketing, R&D, medical affairs and health economics to deliver on those plans.
  • Act as primary contact for investigators interested in developing and performing IITs with the company’s commercially available oncology assays.
  • Serve as a scientific expert amongst the Hologic and Customer communities in order to promote the clinical benefits of Hologic Oncology products to drive growth.
  • Identify and engage thought leaders in breast cancer within market to conduct scientific discussions and understand insights related to molecular diagnostics in breast cancer management while also establishing and maintaining professional relationships with them.
  • Assists with the study and publication pipeline of IITs for specific products (existing and new) including gathering necessary internal feedback, communication with clinicians, and execution of contracts.
  • Supports local access and reimbursement with medical and scientific expertise, participates in active partnership with health economic and health outcome research teams in order to ensure business deliverables are achieved.
  • Engages in activities as directed to support the Medical Sciences and Insights team to ensure corporate and department goals are achieved
  • Establishes and maintains ongoing collaborative relationships with leadership, marketing, sales and customer support teams to provide objective, evidence-based scientific and clinical information.
  • Engages with marketing and other applicable internal departments to ensure that all studies, presentations, and messaging are aligned with the strategic goals of the business. Develop scientific and clinical presentations and deliver presentations at internal and external meetings.
  • Provide scientific/medical review and edits for medical, educational and promotional materials.
  • Maintains clinical, scientific and technical expertise via attendance as directed at select US and OUS conferences, symposia, review of scientific journals and partnership with Hologic product and technology experts.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Ph.D. or MPH in an applicable scientific discipline in molecular biology, oncology, or biomedical sciences
  • Minimum 5 years clinical, medical or scientific experience within a medical device, biotechnology or pharmaceutical company; Experience in breast cancer is a plus
  • Experience designing and conducting clinical research studies including writing detailed study plans and protocols
  • Excellent scientific analytical skills, and knowledge and experience in basic statistical methods
  • Self-starter with a can-do attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to achieve alignment among differing opinions
  • Strong team-orientation with demonstrated ability to both lead and follow cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to prioritize competing products and changing focus to support the overall business
  • Ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of applicable disease states that is/are reflected by use of Hologic product(s)
  • Ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of Hologic product(s) as well as the competitive landscape in the molecular diagnostics industry
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills, with experience writing and publishing peer reviewed publications preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to independently deliver quality results in a timely manner

  • Ability to travel up to 30 – 50% of the time.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Actions taken by employees in this position have financial impact on end results of the department and the company. In addition, as a representative of the Hologic Department of Clinical Solutions, the Sr Scientific Affairs Manager is expected to act ethically and professionally at all times.

The annualized base salary range for this role is $165,000 to $175,000 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.
