Job Description

Our Company's Discovery Biologics is seeking an exceptional and experienced scientist at the Senior Director level to lead the Biologics Disruptive Technologies group based in Cambridge, MA. The role carries responsibilities for advancing cutting edge technologies that deliver transformational scientific, technological, and operational improvements in our ability to discover and develop new biologics therapies.  The position leads an organization of both in silico and wet lab scientists.  The role reports into the VP of Discovery Biologics and sits on the global Discovery Biologics Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Disruptive Technologies team to advance state-of-the-art capabilities that accelerate our ability to invent biologics medicines, including AI generative design, automation/miniaturization, cell-free expression.

  • Manage priorities, resources, and investments aligned with the Discovery Biologics strategy.

  • As a member of the Discovery Biologics Leadership Team, collaboratively drive the strategy and operations of the our Company global Discovery Biologics organization.

  • Actively attract and develop talent, including strategically leveraging diversity to strengthen the team.

  • Foster a high-performance culture of collaboration, engagement, self-accountability and inclusion.

  • Effectively partner across multidisciplinary interfaces to achieve organizational objectives.

  • Support partnerships and partnering opportunities with biotech and academia to drive new and existing capability collaborations and evaluations in areas of strategic intent.

  • Stay abreast of external advancements in the relevant scientific fields.

  • Promote the external reputation of our Company Discovery Biologics.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Ph.D. (with 10 years) or Bachelor's / Master's (with 15 years) in a technology, life sciences or related discipline and relevant industry experience listed below

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Expert-level knowledge in one or more of the following:  Generative AI-driven de novo design and protein engineering; cell-free expression; lab-on-a-chip; microfluidics; LIMS; automation
  • Prior experience in leadership and managerial roles in the development of AI/ML, LIMS, Data Science, or automation
  • Experience mentoring and developing colleagues through formal and informal means

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Has established of a strong external reputation through high-impact publications, presentations, and scientific community engagement

  • Demonstrated passion for, and a track record of talent development

  • Champion for diverse and inclusive culture

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in the discovery of biologics therapeutics

  • Project leadership experience

  • Experience in outsourcing and managing external collaborations

  • Experience in line management of groups of five (5) or more
