SAP ABAP Developer Principal

Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for covering a broad spectrum of SAP projects from engineering cloud-based solutions to design and implementation of new application features and functionality and maintaining existing SAP Solutions.  The primary objective of the position is to leverage expertise in ABAP coding to develop and maintain SAP and Vertex applications according to detailed written and oral design specifications. The role involves creating comprehensive written technical design documents to ensure clear communication and alignment with project goals. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for debugging and troubleshooting issues within the SAP and Vertex environments, ensuring seamless operation and functionality. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential to work effectively with cross-functional teams, contributing to the overall success of the development and implementation processes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Architect, design, code, unit test, fully implement and deliver SAP application features with highest quality and security to prevent unauthorized access / use

• Create modular, scalable, testable, tested, performant sub systems which interface via well- defined end points using software engineering best practices such as unit testing, Technical Design Documents, design patterns

• Implement, test, maintain and support SAP software, based on technical design specifications

• Prepare technical design specifications based on functional requirements and analysis documents

• Review functional requirements, analysis and design documents and provide feedback

• Assist with triage and resolution of issues from SAP customers and internal users

• Work independently to plan, prioritize, and complete high complex critical priority work assignments, as a member of a project team

• Participate in and/or lead architecture and code reviews

• Promote Continuous Improvement by identifying process inefficiencies and quality improvements

• Lead or participate in other projects or duties as assigned

• Provide guidance to and mentor more junior team members

• Occasional travel required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Expert SAP skills and ability to work within a team-oriented, collaborative environment, ability to partake in and provide leadership to technical, design and retrospective dialog

• Expert analytical and problem-solving skills, passionate about learning and applying new SAP technologies
• Expert SAP ABAP coding skills and familiarity with core transaction processing

• Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, strong client service focus

• Able to identify root cause of system issues and determine short- and long-term resolutions

• Strong analysis and design skills, SaaS application development, proven ability to learn new SAP technologies

• Ability to listen and understand information and communicate the same.

• Must possess good organizational skills.

• Must be results oriented, customer focused, and exhibit good interpersonal skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft office packages.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

• B.S. in Computer Science or Software Engineering

• Fifteen (15) plus years of experience in SAP application development

• Ten (10) plus years of experience implementing SAP ERP or SAP Solutions

• Five (5) plus years of experience with REST APIs, JavaScript frameworks, client-side UI development and test-driven development

• Experience with iterative, incremental software development processes

• Experience with complex software development projects through all phases of the software development life cycle

• Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
