Job description

Your Title: GNC Engineer - Control Systems

Job Location: Westminster, CO

Our Department: Trimble Ag Industry Solutions (AgIS)

Is designing automatic motion control systems algorithms from the ground up something that excites you?

What You Will Do

You would be joining the core development team for these systems. The work would include developing/maintaining core algorithms to control steering and other features in off-highway industrial machinery (tractors, combines, excavators, dozers, etc...). You will be using MATLAB/Simulink or C/C++ to model/develop/maintain the algorithms, analyze and optimize vehicle performance, and integrate the functionality into releasable products.

  • Design, development, and productization of control law algorithms

  • Work with Matlab/Simulink utilizing model-based design (MBD)

  • Utilize your experience with sensor fusion and filter design (e.g LKF, EKF) for pose estimation

  • Design signal conditioning and feedback loop compensation (e.g. notch, lead-lag filters)

  • Development, characterization, and validation of non-linear vehicle dynamics plant models

  • Develop and eEvaluate the algorithms in both simulation and in the target operating environments

  • Support the integration, deployment, and performance validation of algorithms on real-time hardware/operating systems

  • Define the system/software architecture

  • Foster ongoing testing and testability in building quality products

What Skills & Experience You Should Bring

  • 8+ years of demonstrable experience with control algorithm development for dynamic physical systems

  • A Master’s Degree or PhD degree in an engineering discipline such as Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, GNC, Mechatronics, or other related degree is required

  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink Product Development

  • Practical controls experience, specifically in the automatic controls of off-highway industrial machinery

  • Direct experience with test, verification, validation and productization of algorithms

  • Experience with requirements decomposition and management tools

  • Experience with exploiting plant simulation tools throughout the product development process

What Skills & Experience You Could Bring

  • 15+ years of applicable work experience

  • State estimation (Kalman filters) development experience

  • Experience leading small technical project and project management

  • Simulink auto-code generation

  • Loosely/Tightly coupled GNSS+IMU state estimation

  • Autonomous/Semi-autonomous vehicle control

  • Experience with Systems Identification, Simscape, or similar plant modeling tools and concepts

  • Safety-critical software development and certification

  • HIL and SIL testing

  • Proficiency in production-grade C/C++ software development

  • Experience with ROS ecosystem

  • Missile, ship, submarine, or autonomous vehicle guidance, navigation & control background

  • Ability to travel (including international) up to 10% per year
