North Wind Solutions is a Government contracting small business with operations at military and civilian installations across the United States. The company’s focus is facilities operation and maintenance, waste management and radiological services, security control and force protection, and environmental services.

POSITION PURPOSE:

North Wind Solutions Information Management and the North Wind Enterprise Application Services at the Hanford Site in Richland WA develop and maintain hundreds of custom and commercial-off-the-shelf software applications, as well as provide architecture, infrastructure and security to our client’s information management environments.

In this context, the Systems Support Specialist is a technical writing and business process improvement role. The Systems Support Specialist provides support and works with the entire organization, assisting with various documentation assignments, technical writing and other project activities within the organization. The Systems Support Specialist will help drive this evolution by supporting the managers, project managers and software engineers with all phases of Information Technology work and deliverables.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
:
This position is responsible and accountable for providing documentation support including development and writing of IT documents, analysis of the organization’s documents and documentation process, and other activities related to IT documentation throughout the software development lifecycle. This candidate must be able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with the Information Management team and customers; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and exercise sound judgment and discretion. The Systems Support Specialist will assist with all aspects of documentation within the projects and organization under the direction of the Information Management leadership team.

Typical duties and responsibilities could include:

  • Analysis and verification of all required IT project documentation
  • Assist and initiate the writing of all software lifecycle documentation
  • Business process analysis and creation of process flow charts, data flow diagrams, and system integration diagrams
  • Assist and support Project Managers in customer and project meetings with requirements gathering and action tracking
  • Assist with the writing of software application test scripts
  • Assist and initiate the writing of user manuals
  • Support document release process
  • Support of required status reports and documents including weekly reports
  • Perform all work safely and in compliance with environmental obligations using the core functions and core elements of the Integrated Safety Management System/Environmental Management System (ISMS/EMS).
  • The Systems Support Specialist will work directly with all levels of software engineers, project managers, managers, and software quality engineers.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in business administration, communications, computer science or other relevant area of study.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in technical writing.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in technical editing.

  • You are proficient in the advanced use of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and PowerPoint and have a proven ability to learn new computer programs quickly.
  • You are familiar with software quality assurance and software testing principles.


Special Requirements:

  • Occasional Off Hours and Weekend support may be required to support outages, implementations, updates or upgrades.
  • Must pass pre-employment background check.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-2 years of experience as a technical writer.
  • 1-2 years of technical editing experience.
  • Experience using modern cloud collaboration environments such as Microsoft O365, Teams, and Sharepoint.
  • Experience creating and editing PDF files using Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Experience developing process flow diagrams using Microsoft Visio or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with Hanford Site or other DOE complex site/government agencies systems, infrastructure and/or processes.
  • Experience working in a Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) or similar regulatory environment.
  • Familiarity with software application development and software lifecycle documentation.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodology and supporting toolsets such as Azure DevOps


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be sitting for long periods of time in an office environment, but will also be required to stand, walk, and talk or hear.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This position is in a remote first environment however this role may require limited time in the office. Work is performed within a typical office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
