Salary Range:    $72,000.00 - $82,000.00 Salary/year
CalWORKS Counselor

The Behavioral Health Counselor is responsible for providing direct behavioral health services in home, clinic, and field setting. This position provides services that include providing assessment, individual and group therapy, case management, and outreach in the community. The Behavioral Health Counselor delivers services with attention to cultural relevance and sensitivity.

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Provide culturally sensitive, client-centered individual, group, and family therapy and rehabilitation services.
  • Facilitate referrals to community resources and performs case management services.
  • Develop culturally relevant assessment and treatment plans.
  • Complete all documentation per Medi-Cal, Santa Clara County and AACI standards within expected deadlines.
  • Participate in clinical supervisions, consultations, team meetings, trainings, and after-hours phone coverage rotation.
  • Provide outreach activities, educating and promotion mental health services to the CalWORKs clients.
  • Licensed Clinicians only- Complete and maintain LPS 5150 Authorization certification and provide officer of the day support.
  • Complete other related duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in social work or psychology; or equivalent education, training, and experience. 
  • One year or more of direct clinical experience working with adults.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of DSM-V criteria for diagnosing behavioral health illnesses.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and evidenced-based practices (i.e., CBT, DBT, ACT).
  • Knowledge and understanding of cultural issues, community resources and family dynamics.
  • Understanding of legal and ethical requirements of board of licensure.
  • Knowledge of mandated reporting laws in California.
  • Knowledge of community and county resources to facilitate referrals and coordination with appropriate agencies.
  • Ability to exercise independent clinical judgment within the scope of the program responsibilities.
  • Ability to implement evidenced-based techniques to address client’s symptomatology and functional impairments.
  • Proficient writing skills.
  • Proficient organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain a valid California driver license, current personal auto insurance, and an MVR sufficient to maintain insurability under agency auto liability. 
  • Verbal and written fluency in English required; Bilingual skills in a second language (particularly Spanish, Mandarin, or Vietnamese) desired but not required.

Competencies:

  • Ability to communicate well with people of diverse cultural professional and experiential background.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Working conditions

This job requires you to be in the community, in client’s homes, and other community partner sites. Work is often conducted in an office environment. Basic safety precautions and use of protective clothing or gear may be required. Working with clients who are seriously mentally ill, or high risk may increase exposure to secondary trauma. Driving is essential to the function of this job. The job requires travel up to 25% of the time.
