Overview

Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Program Manager will be an analytical lead on the Research Advancement and Information team, which promotes CHLA/TSRI research development and advancement goals of the research enterprise. This team is in the Office of the Chief Scientific Officer. With the new hospital strategic plan including growth of clinical research and clinical trials, this position is essential for facilitating growth and development while organizing, directing, and managing all programs developed in accordance to the strategic initiatives set by TSRI leadership. Under the general direction of the Chief Scientific Officer and the Associate Director of Research Advancement and Information, the program manager will develop, lead and monitor implementation of initiatives and programs designed to promote research collaborations extending at CHLA and with other academic medical centers and partners at USC. Knowledge of the state and federal policy world is essential for the Program Manager to make key connections regarding research initiatives. The Program Manager will be responsible for identifying specific strategic funding opportunities that align with the hospital and The Saban Research Institute (TSRI) strategic plans. The Program Manager will work with investigators on the early study planning, and work with faculty investigators to form robust research teams. The Program Manager duties will include organization of research workshops, networking events, funding opportunity dissemination, developing and maintaining critical national data on research funding, managing relevant research data that are readily accessible through CHLA approved platforms. The Program Manager will play a crucial role in disseminating research findings and achievements by CHLA researchers through various venues, including community and patient advocacy groups. The Program Manager will stay up to date on call CHLA research activities by analyzing CHLA research funding trends and by following CHLA

researchers’ research publications. The Program Manger will work closely with faculty and other staff at CHLA and at collaborating institutions, as well as with colleagues within Research Operations. Required

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:

3 - 5+ years of combined experience in performing biomedical research at an academic medical center, education, training and relevant experience. A broad, interdisciplinary base of understanding biomedical and STEM fields and experience in interacting in meaningful way with faculty, staff and trainees in relevant pediatric research disciplines. Managing multiple parallel projects with research and administrative components, including generating verbal and written communications to diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, community partners, and patient advocacy groups. Hands-on knowledge of the policy world related to science and technology to leverage opportunities for CHLA faculty investigators and connecting policy makers to the CHLA research enterprise. Experience in an academic medical center environment and in writing research grant proposals and research publications. Understand federal and California state funding mechanisms, the overall trends in biotechnology.

Preferred

Direct experience working with rare diseases patient advocacy groups.

Education/Licensure/Certification

Required: Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred: Advanced degree in biomedical research is preferred, PhD or equivalent is desired.

Pay Scale Information

$76,128.00-$137,030.00

The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description.
