We are seeking a qualified medical coding specialist to join an established and talented team. The qualified candidate will have experience coding in a facility setting, be self-motivated, positive and detail oriented. Inpatient and outpatient hospital coding experience is a requirement for this position. Job functions include the following.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Identifies and codes Inpatient records for the purpose of reimbursement, research, and compliance with federal regulations according to diagnosis and procedure using ICD-10-PCS 
  2. Reviews clinical documentation, procedural information, and diagnostic results to assign ICD-10-CM and PCS diagnostic and procedural  codes used for billing, internal and external data reporting, research, regulatory compliance3, and quality monitoring.
  3. Assigns the correct principal diagnosis, comorbidities and complications (CC's and MCC's) secondary diagnosis, POA (Present on Admission) indicators, HAC ( Hospital-Acquired Conditions), principal procedure codes, and secondary procedure codes according to official coding guidelines.
  4. Query physicians as necessary to complete and accurately code accounts
  5. Work directly with CDI (Clinical Documentation Improvement) department on concurrent review for completeness and accuracy
  6. Work directly with the billing department to effectuate smooth AR processes
  7. Identify trends and offer corrective action
  8. Represent Trajectory and its clients in a professional manner
  9. Maintain excellent customer service to both our clients and our provider's patients
  10. Other duties as assigned by manager
