Summary of Job Duties:
The Director of Research Programs will provide leadership and strategic oversight for the College of Pharmacy's (COP) research initiatives, focusing on administrative, strategic, and regulatory aspects. Key responsibilities include coordinating research efforts to boost grant submissions, support larger grant applications, and build a robust research program. The role involves managing research and finance administration, ensuring compliance with regulatory and financial obligations, and collaborating with the Associate Dean of Research & Graduate Studies (ADRGS) and other research units. The director will assist with both pre-award and post-award management, work on budget management for research grants, and help increase grant submissions. Additionally, the position includes managing research project logistics, coordinating various types of grants, and ensuring protection for animal and human subjects. The Research Director will also handle material transfer agreements, supervise SBIR/STTR programs, manage graduate program budgets, and represent COP at professional forums.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field plus five (5) years of administration, financial and/or operational experience to include three (3) years of project management and one (1) year of office management experience.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills. 

  • Ability to plan, organize, develop and write comprehensive reports of project findings. 

  • Knowledge of planning, research and analysis techniques and procedures. 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Business administration, healthcare administration, public health or research discipline plus four (4+ years in research administration and management.

  • Skills in technical writing, grant writing, accounting, budgeting for research grants, preparing online training tools. 

  • Experience with state and federal laws and regulations. 

  • Knowledge of UAMS systems, include Workday, grants management, and CLARA. 


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

Research Management:

  • Oversees research, designs, and implements daily workflow and processes, managing budgets, and collaborating within COP and with other organizations and units that support the goals of the COP and its research-focused programs. 

  • Ensure compliance and strict adherence to federal and state legislation regarding animal and human subjects at UAMS and international laws governing research projects when applicable.

  • Sort/identify funding announcements from funding bodies, communicate with targeted faculty, align research grant requirements, assist faculty in preparing applications, budgets, and justifications for grants, as well as support budget management, contract management, and resource optimization from collaborators and other institutional units to increase grant submissions.

Pre-Post Award Support:

  • Provides technical assistance at various levels to increase COP faculty grant submissions and prepare research metrics and reports.

  • Coordinates faculty development programs, supporting grant writing and submission, and submitting various types of grants.

  • Post-award management with SciCom, OSPAN, and Grants Accounting includes assisting with grant application development and maintaining template resources for the COP. 

  • Other Duties as assigned.
