Novavax is seeking an Associate Director of Global Scientific Library Services to ensure the library needs of a growing organization are met. The Associate Director will direct the strategic vision and execution, all operations and resourcing, and communications for delivery of services, tools, and data resources. In addition, the Associate Director will forecast and maintain the library budget. This position will report to the Executive Director, Global Medical Information and will be located in Gaithersburg, MD or remote-based.
 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Sets the strategic direction and execution annually in alignment with Global Medical Information, Global Medical Affairs, and corporate goals.
  • Forecasts and maintains the library budget by analyzing usage metrics in conjunction with cost. Negotiates cost with vendors and manages vendor relationships.
  • Procures databases, journals, and other sources of scientific information.
  • Leads raising awareness of Novavax Global Scientific Library Services to internal stakeholders. Continues to build, maintain, and improve the portal for stakeholders to enhance their knowledge management.
  • Analyzes workload to determine the need for expansion of staffing. When appropriate and the need has been justified, hires, trains, and manages staff.
  • Identifies new internal users of scientific library and prepares individual and group training program options for internal stakeholders on resources and searching systems available.
  • Leads the copyright clearance efforts as a subject matter expert, in collaboration with legal. Assists with the copyright clearance policy and copyright permission.
  • Assists with developing searching term strategies, performs advanced search logic, and conducts literature searches.
  • Creates weekly/monthly and on-demand alerts and newsletters by conducting thorough research, evaluation/analysis, and synthesis.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science
  • 5+ years of work experience in biotechnology/pharmaceutical/research & development
  • Experience with copyright laws/regulation
  • Experience with library budgeting and vendor negotiation
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking skills
  • Knowledge of searching databases, scientific publications and competitive intelligence resources
  • Ability to collaborate/partner with colleagues, vendors, and key stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, administrative, and project management skills
  • Strong computer skills required, including use of advanced Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams) and Embase/PubMed, Right Find Enterprise, online databases, Share Point, library automation systems other digital applications
