Your missions

About us

Pomelo Care is a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, engineers and problem solvers who are passionate about improving care for moms and babies. We are transforming outcomes for pregnant people and babies with evidence-based pregnancy and newborn care at scale. Our technology-driven care platform enables us to engage patients early, conduct individualized risk assessments for poor pregnancy outcomes, and deliver coordinated, personalized virtual care throughout pregnancy, NICU stays, and the first postpartum year. We measure ourselves by reductions in preterm births, NICU admissions, c-sections and maternal mortality; we improve outcomes and reduce healthcare spend.

Role Description

Your North Star: build analytic solutions that demonstrate Pomelo’s value to our payer partners.

We’re looking for an experienced, passionate leader to join our team at Pomelo Care. As the first dedicated health economics hire at a rapidly growing startup, you’ll need to bring the scrappiness and flexibility required at early-stage startups along with the thoughtful structure needed to take our demonstration of impact to the next level as we scale with our payer partners.

Responsibilities
  • Architect and execute analyses that effectively assess the outcomes of Pomelo Care’s programs and initiatives
  • Thinking strategically about how we can best communicate the value we’re delivering for patients in a scalable and repeatable manner
  • Communicate results to our payer partners, including to teams of health economists or actuaries
  • Collaborate closely with our technical, partnerships, and operations teams to understand Pomelo’s programs and associated user journeys, so that you can determine how to effectively assess their outcomes
  • Author internal whitepapers as well as external-facing publications
  • Work closely with data science to guide technical investments and to scale our work
Who you are
  • 6+ years of experience in advanced analytics, delivering complex analyses to cross-functional teams of stakeholders
  • 3+ years of experience developing statistical and/ or machine learning models to answer complex healthcare problems using varied techniques (e.g., propensity score matching, linear and logistic regressions, k-means clustering, difference-in-differences, decision trees, etc.)
  • Experience in leading program results discussions with payers, including with executive audiences as well as technical ones
  • Strong in multiple data analysis languages (e.g., R, Python, SQL)
  • Excellent executor: you know how to get things done under tight constraints, including making tough tradeoffs and/or getting scrappy when needed, without sacrificing core product or organizational values
  • Strong problem-solver with good judgment and decision making in the interest of driving your team to pursue the highest expected value work
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator
Bonus points if you have any of the following
  • 2+ years managing data scientists or analytics professionals
  • Strong proficiency in SQL
  • Strong proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets
  • Experience with dbt
  • Have built dashboards or visualizations for program evaluation (e.g., in Looker, Tableau, Metabase)

Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our company’s size and industry, and are one part of the total compensation package that also includes equity, benefits, and other opportunities at Pomelo Care. In accordance with New York City, Colorado, California, and other applicable laws, Pomelo Care is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. Individual pay decisions are ultimately based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, geography, and balancing internal equity. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $220,000 - $260,000. We expect most candidates to fall in the middle of the range. We also believe that your personal needs and preferences should be taken into consideration, so we allow some choice between equity and cash.
