Job Description

  • NOTE: This is a US based remote position; The position can be based anywhere in the United States. US work authorization required at the time of application.***

About CRS

Catholic Relief Services carries out the commitment of the Bishops of the United States to assist the poor and vulnerable overseas. Our Catholic identity is at the heart of our mission and operations. We welcome as a part of our staff and as partners people of all faiths and secular traditions who share our values and our commitment to serving those in need.

As an organization that celebrates and promotes diversity and inclusion, and which is committed to the ongoing work of racial equity and anti-racism, we welcome applicants of all backgrounds. This is a virtual (on-line) internship, although an occasional in-person meeting in Baltimore or elsewhere may be included.

Purpose Of The Internship

CRS seeks a graduate student intern to assist its Youth Team and indirectly the Equity, Inclusion, Peacebuilding and Youth (EQUIP-Y) unit activities. This assignment will contribute to CRS’ 2030 agency strategy and vision that all young people lead healthy, productive and engaged lives. The intern will work with the Youth team to accomplish their strategy and programming goals.

Context

Young people who are 15-29 years old in developing countries and fragile states need leadership and life skills, employability, entrepreneurship, and other critical skills and support to secure livelihoods and become active citizens and change agents in their communities. Too many young people have experienced war, violence and trauma and face poverty, food insecurity and marginalization, in addition to stigma and discrimination. These factors are compounded by the absence of productive connections to social mobility networks and institutions.

As part of its strategy, CRS aims to scale youth livelihoods and leadership for young people in developing countries. The vision is to transform government and private sector employment and entrepreneurship systems to be more responsive to the needs of young people, thereby resulting in sustained impact on young people. CRS will accomplish this through a two-pronged approach of building a strong foundation of impactful quality programming and scaling tested models and approaches to shift employment and entrepreneurship systems.

This internship seeks a current graduate student interested in obtaining work experience that aligns with his/her studies in International Development, Management, Policy or Economics and/or to fulfill requirements for an academic course or degree.

Primary Assignment

The intern will perform key tasks in the following areas:

Increase collaboration between youth and other strategic priority areas as an agency cross-cutting issue through research objectives and learning.

Support the design and implementation of assessments, evaluations and research studies related to youth entrepreneurship, youth workforce development, systems change and/or other areas associated with youth programming.

Research youth scale initiatives, global trends and opportunities and support documentation of evidence-based programming.

Assist agencywide reporting on global indicators.

Support global efforts to commemorate International Youth Day events globally.

Contribute to advocacy and communications efforts targeting internal and external audiences.

Support knowledge management and learning activities such as the Youth Community of Practice, trainings, webinars and special events.

Other tasks may also be assigned, to be determined.
