At NexusTek, we offer exciting opportunities for IT professionals. The Database Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance of our database systems as well as ensuring the availability, reliability, and security of our databases, while providing support and expertise to our development and operations teams.

Nexustek’s Cloud delivery organization has both professional and managed services practices. Your focus will be split across both delivery practices as demand requires.

 

 

Who you are

 

You are a highly skilled and detail-oriented Database Administrator with in-depth skills within Public Cloud and DevOps technologies. Your breadth of knowledge and depth of experience allow you to act as a leader and SME while developing innovative solutions. You are comfortable with providing guidance, strategy, and advising on best practices for a variety of clients and technical environments. Your solid communication skills mean that you can easily present to technical and non-technical audiences alike, including C-level executives. You are eager to join an exciting, rapidly growing team at a company where you can immediately start to make a great impact. 

 


You know how to:

  • Design and implement database systems based on requirements and best practices.
  • Develop and optimize database schemas, queries, and indexes to ensure efficient data storage and retrieval.
  • Designing and execute complex data migration projects, including schema migration and data replication.
  • Implement data replication, backup, and recovery strategies.
  • Install, configure, and maintain database servers and instances.
  • Perform database migrations and upgrades with minimal downtime and data integrity.
  • Ensure high availability and disaster recovery solutions are in place.
  • Implement and manage database security best practices, including user access control, encryption, and vulnerability assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant security standards and regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Conduct regular security audits and apply patches and updates as necessary.
  • Monitor database performance using appropriate tools to ensure optimal operation.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, performing regular database tuning.
  • Conduct capacity planning and scaling to accommodate growth.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts for database deployment, maintenance, and monitoring.
  • Implement automated alerting and incident response mechanisms.
  • Provide expert support for database-related issues, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution.
  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure smooth and efficient database operations.
  • Document and maintain standard operating procedures and best practices.
  • Stay up to date with the latest database technologies, trends, and best practices.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve existing database solutions to enhance performance, security, and cost-efficiency.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of database strategies and roadmaps.

 

 

You are skilled in most of these areas:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in database administration.
  • Strong proficiency with relational database management systems (RDBMS) (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and Oracle).
  • Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, or Redis is a plus).
  • Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages (Python, Bash, or PowerShell).
  • Experience with database performance tuning, backup and recovery, and security best practices.
  • Experience with cloud database services (Amazon RDS, Azure SQL Database, and Google Cloud SQL).
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in database administration and cloud computing.

 

One or more of the following database certifications may be required:

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)
  • AWS Certified Database – Specialty
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
