Position Description

The Senior ROC Operator is responsible for the continuous monitoring and operation of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) sites. Working independently from established procedures, the Senior ROC Operator ensures system reliability with minimal supervision. This role involves a rotating 4-on/4-off schedule with 12-hour day and night shifts, reporting to the Remote Operations Center Manager. The ideal candidate excels in an entrepreneurial environment, demonstrating critical thinking and prompt execution.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Remote Monitoring and Operation: Continuously monitor and operate energy storage sites, ensuring optimal performance and system reliability through advanced SCADA systems and monitoring tools
  • Issue Documentation and Tracking: Accurately document all events, alarms, and operational data in logs and the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to maintain comprehensive records and facilitate future analysis
  • Fault and Alarm Resolution: Quickly identify and troubleshoot faults and alarms, implementing corrective actions to minimize system downtime and ensure uninterrupted service
  • Customer and Control Center Communication: Effectively communicate with customers and other control centers to provide updates, outage information, coordinate activities, and ensure seamless operations
  • Works Unsupervised: Demonstrate the ability to work efficiently in an unsupervised environment, making critical decisions and taking appropriate actions to maintain system performance
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to junior operators, sharing knowledge and best practices to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement
  • Field Team Support: Collaborate with field teams to support on-site operations, offering remote assistance and expertise to resolve technical issues and optimize performance
  • Training and Documentation Development: Assist in the development of training programs and operational documentation to enhance team capabilities and standardize procedures
  • NERC Compliance: Execute all operations in accordance with FlexGen compliance programs
  • Additional Duties: Perform additional duties as required, adapting to the dynamic needs of the Remote Operations Center and contributing to the team's overall success

Position Requirements

  • Minimum 2-year degree in Electrical Technology or Engineering, or equivalent experience in power generation control room operations.
  • 5+ years of experience in control room operation. Experience with renewable power generation preferred.
  • Ability to work a rotating shift 365 days a year including nights, weekends, and holidays including overtime.
  • Ability to obtain Certifications required by NERC, RTOs, and ISOs as needed.
  • Willingness to fill scheduled and un-scheduled shift vacancies.
  • Advanced computer skills, including experience in SCADA system operations and MS Office applications.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to read electrical single line diagrams, mechanical drawings, and network diagrams.
  • Ability to effectively communicate professionally both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to explain and understand technical principles, concepts and situations.
  • Ability to collect and analyze numerical data.
  • Capable of working without sponsorship (U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder)
  • NERC Certified System Operator preferred
  • Troubleshooting distributed power generation and controls equipment preferred
