As a Sr. Manager, Finance Governance & Controls, you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining accounting policies and an effective accounting governance and internal controls framework to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting of the company. You will lead the financial governance and control function for Vancity including: FP&A, audit, compliance, policy and SOX. You will also lead Finance implementation projects to automate and improve financial reporting systems, controls and processes. As a Sr. Manager, Finance Governance & Controls you will be is responsible for financial data and systems, modeling, business intelligence and ensuring that data is accurate and complete.

This is a Full Time, permanent position and this role reports directly to the VP of Finance.

This competitively rewarded role will enjoy hybrid or remote working arrangements which can be fulfilled from the Vancity head office location, or anywhere in the Lower Mainland or Greater Toronto area. 

A typical day would involve:

  • Collaborating with Finance leaders on the assessment and monitoring of financial risks and controls, and continuous improvements on financial processes and controls.
  • Leading the development and communication of a formal accounting and controls strategy for Vancity. Establish and maintain a strong, practical and balanced accounting governance framework, including policies, procedures and internal controls for financial reporting (ICFR/IFRS), ensuring completeness and compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulations and our company policies.
  • Proactively identifying and execute opportunities to leverage best practices; improve the design and execution of existing control and improve the sharing of business and financial information across the organization. Drive change and add value through continually evolving current processes and analysis, in light of, changing business needs and reporting requirements.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to cross-functional teams on technical accounting issues and implementation of new accounting standards and leading practices; fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Leading and developing a team by providing coaching, clear direction and expectations.
  • Building relationships with external auditors, industry contracts and other experts to facilitate effective audits, reporting and a governance and internal control framework.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of emerging accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and leading industry practices and trends; recommend appropriate action to ensure compliance and leading industry practices.

You Have:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 7+ years of high-level involvement in Financial/management reporting
  • CPA designation and/or accounting designation
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of financial reporting under IFRS accounting standards and internal controls over financial reporting
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills – ability to work with people at all levels within the organization
  • Highly motivated, collaborative, and self-starter attitude
  • Ability to take initiative, coupled with strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage numerous priorities simultaneously amidst tight deadlines

Salary range: The salary range for the role is $102,200 to $153,200 and a candidate’s offer is likely to be up to the mid-point of the role ($127,700). The upper half of the salary range is typically reserved for individuals who have demonstrated consistent strong performance in the role and possess a high level of job knowledge and skill.
