Director of Insights and Marketing Operations:

Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Marketing, you will support the marketing team and the broader organization on a range of projects that will help Zappos define and prioritize strategies on behalf of the customer. As the Director of Customer Insights and Marketing Operations, you play a pivotal role that is equal parts researcher, change agent, master orchestrator, analyst, technologist and pragmatic optimist, with exceptional skills in communication and collaboration. You will personally drive customer research for the brand while leading a diverse team responsible for the success in planning, strategy, and execution of the entire marketing org, from drawing seasonal insights that fuel seasonal buys and briefs, to driving the GTM calendar and content map that fuel marketing executions. To be effective, you must have proven success leading a marketing team within a complex matrix structure and also have a proven track record of turning research and insights into brand strategy. You will be adept at influencing to spark change/progress, and be ready to define and drive a strategic vision for the future of marketing capabilities and operations. Your team’s full scope includes turning research to insights, owning marketing reporting and analytics, developing and running the Go to Marketing calendar, influencing and sourcing seasonal briefs, orchestrating content plans, and developing the tech, mechanisms, and processes that drive success in marketing and brand success. With innovation as a backbone to team success, you will leverage industry trends, best practices and insights as a key input to both continuous improvement and the future strategy and roadmap.

Responsibilities:
Overall:
  • Manage and mentor functional leaders to become experts on consumer desires and behaviors relevant to their areas of focus, distilling ideas into actionable insights.
  • Provide regular feedback, coaching, and mentorship to team members. Identify opportunities to expand roles through training and challenging initiatives, enhancing skill sets and exposure.
  • Develop and communicate a clear functional vision and strategy, aligning with leadership on key priorities and roadmaps.
  • See the big picture, connecting the dots between the customer, the brand,  the business and media partners to create journeys that resonate.
  • Collaborate with Zappos leadership and supporting departments to build and evolve enterprise programs including, but not limited to, brand plans and consumer segmentation.
Customer Research: Own customer research and insight development. 


As the corporate champion for the consumer, you will oversee all primary research and collaborate with agency partners to unify a comprehensive understanding of their decision journey, from top-to-bottom funnel. You will collaborate cross-functionally to identify and prioritize the company's consumer research needs, developing the function's objectives and roadmap. Specifically, you will drive research that informs key marketing deliverables, including brand positioning, brand planning, segmentation, marketing campaigns, content production, channel planning, customer lifecycle engagement, and site experience to enhance customer connections and drive sales. This work collaborates with and enables media partners to approach the marketing funnel with a clear understanding of the communications tasks & messaging that Zappos needs to meet consumers with, in the right channels and contexts, so that Zappos’ communications resonate. Furthermore, you will leverage insights from content and channel performance to refine consumer knowledge and priorities. And as the team lead, you will set strategic direction for and manage, coach and mentor a cohesive, collaborative, high performing team of marketing professionals.

Reporting and Analytics: Lead development and share-out of marketing reporting and analytics.  


You will be responsible for the centralization of marketing measurement and reporting to track performance, align data sets, and provide insights that guide decision-making.  Balancing in-house teams and systems with 3P Mixed Media Measurement and analytics, your team will ensure accurate reporting methodology and support channel leads in developing measurement mechanisms specific to their platforms. Key responsibilities include: driving decision making through data, refining reporting mechanisms across channels, measuring full-funnel impact, scaling a measurement mindset that fuels data driven decision making. 

Project Management: Lead marketing project tracking, automation, and execution. 


Lead a team of managers responsible for fueling content production, content management, channel executions, and campaign recaps.  Your project management team will drive an automation agenda for all manual marketing activities, and continuously audit marketing team tools, processes, and plans for efficiency.  This team plays a crucial role in driving an on time, cross platform, and integrated planning cycle and execution for every owned and operated channel including e-mail, site merchandising, loyalty, retail media, and SMS.  In addition, the team enables the success of our content engine in delivering on the seasonal brief on time, on budget, and aligned to content needs. 

Got to Market and Content: Lead the process and format of seasonal planning, and the content brief.


Your team will lead the cross functional seasonal planning process, enabling a sharp seasonal plan and brief fueling our content production engine.  you will build a roadmap to seasonal integrated campaign launches, sourcing inputs at key milestones from across the organization including: Merchandising, Customer Insights, Finance, and Marketing Channel leads (i.e. Site, Social, E-mail, Paid, PR, Partnerships).  You will drive and optimize a repeatable process that allows teams to plan for key inputs and deliver a consistent experiences across touch-points that our customers can count on. In addition, you will work closely with organizational leadership to drive business objectives through the GTM process, ensuring we maintain our exciting culture of continuous innovation on behalf of our customer.  Your efforts will amplify the marketing impact by ensuring synergy in content and programming across the channel mix and throughout the funnel. 

Marketing Technology: Lead identification and prioritization of tech solutions for  marketing opportunities.


Lead a principal role who works across internal and external stakeholders to integrate best-in-class marketing technology platforms, tools, and services that support Zappos’ marketing strategies and channel needs.  Key responsibilities include: managing the mar-tech roadmap, driving tech team action against marketing team priorities, align tech solutions to business and brand priorities, seek and drive innovation on behalf of the business and our customers.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Economics, Statistics, Data Science or a related field. 
  • 10+ years of experience conducting and leading qualitative and quantitative consumer research projects.
  • 6+ years of management experience leading a strategy, planning, creative, or consumer insights team.
  • Experience developing and integrating primary research into actionable Marketing insights.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Self starter with strong entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work autonomously in an ambiguous environment is a must. 
  • Ability to frame new, ambiguous, and complex issues and generate insights through rigorous qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Results-oriented with the ability to balance numerous tasks and utilize all available resources with a high sense of urgency and self-motivation.
  • Ability to effectively work cross-functionally at all levels of the organization, managing and prioritizing multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, coupled with the capacity to influence stakeholders across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to travel at least 20% of the year.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in web analytics to track and analyze website traffic, user behavior, and conversion rates across the funnel.
  • Experience measuring the effectiveness of marketing campaigns through data analysis and A/B testing. Work with marketing teams to optimize strategies based on insights.
  • Experience leading or being heavily engaged in enterprise-level consumer segmentation or profiling projects is preferred.
  • Experience in the footwear industry and online retail is also preferred.
  • Diverse background in planning, measuring impact, and/or executing across digital marketing, media, onsite, e-mail, SMS, etc.
  • Strong background in brand management and brand development with success in creating lasting relationships with customers

This role is open to candidates physically located in the following metropolitan statistical areas: Austin, TX; Las Vegas, NV; New York, NY; and Seattle, WA. Candidates who are not physically located in one of these areas may not be considered for this role.

The base pay range for this position is $203,000-235,500 per year ; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, a full range of medical and other benefits is offered.
