This role will work hybrid between working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working remotely. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Salary Information: $38.00-$67.00 per hour

The successful candidate will be required to join National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (NABET) Local 51.




Position Summary:
We are seeking a talented individual with 3-5+ years of broadcast engineering experience to join our team. As a Radio Broadcast Engineer, you will play a crucial role in inspecting, repairing, and maintaining all broadcast radio station equipment, from transmitters and studio gear to satellite downlinks and automation systems. Your expertise in IT and networking will be invaluable as you provide basic IT support and troubleshoot equipment issues. With a strong grasp of digital audio delivery and streaming technologies, you'll keep us at the forefront of the industry.

Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, repair, and maintain broadcast radio equipment
- Respond to equipment outages and technical problems
- Conduct routine diagnostic testing and document maintenance activities
- Troubleshoot broadcast equipment issues to the board level
- Provide IT support to users with varying experience
- Stay up-to-date with FCC Rules and Regulations
- Assist in maintaining station transmitter and EAS Logs

Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with FM and HD transmitters
- Proficiency in IT and networking
- Familiarity with digital audio delivery/streaming technologies
- Exceptional time management skills and multitasking abilities
- Proficiency in documentation tools like Excel, Word, and Google Docs
- Strong communication skills - active listening and interpersonal soft-skills; the ability to speak “operator” as well as “engineer” is key
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
- Ability to provide on-call support 24/7 in case of equipment failure
- Ability to inspect, repair, and maintain all broadcast radio station equipment, including transmitters, antennas, satellite downlinks, automation system, studio equipment, remote equipment, generators, telephone system, audio routing systems, consoles, etc.


Desired Experience:
- Familiarity with production and newsroom asset management systems (Dalet Galaxy experience a plus)
- Experience with automated master control systems
- Knowledge of digital routing systems and consoles
- Proficiency in remote PC access tools
- Experience with industry-standard DAWs
- Knowledge of digital audio standards
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Visio
