Officer, Impact and Innovation, Data & Research  

Partnerships

The Partnerships team works to scale Pew’s impact in the world by building an engaged community of partners and mobilizing resources to advance our vital work 

 

Position Overview 

The officer is a key member of the Partnerships’ Impact and Innovation Unit, advancing philanthropic market assessments and exploration on new partnership models, coordinating knowledge sharing on trends in philanthropy, showcasing the impact of partnerships through data visualization and storytelling, and promoting best practices on data governance and data management. The officer will serve as a resource for colleagues scoping new work for Pew, equipping them with data-driven insights into the philanthropic landscape and in-depth discovery of philanthropic trends. This position will also work with the unit to foster a metrics- and intelligence-driven decision-making environment across the department, supporting a culture focused on measurable impact and working with colleagues to track, visualize, and emphasize Pew’s outputs and outcomes.

Furthermore, the officer should have the ability to learn systems specific to Pew and Partnerships quickly and be adept at setting priorities and anticipating needs. The responsibilities will continue to develop in line with Partnerships’ and the institution’s growth and needs. 

 

Reporting to the manager, Impact and Innovation, the officer position is based in Washington, DC, will participate in Pew’s core in-office days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and will have flexibility to work from home the remainder of each week. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the country for which they are seeking employment without visa sponsorship. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • In coordination with the director and manager, develop frameworks and conduct market and opportunity assessments in the philanthropic arena in line with Pew’s program priorities.  

  • Conduct partnerships market and opportunity assessments via data-driven landscape research that identifies unique opportunities in the philanthropic arena by issue area, geography, and/or other factors, in line with Pew’s program priorities. 

  • In coordination with the director and manager, explore, review, and recommend philanthropic partnership models for Pew’s consideration based upon in-depth discovery and research into the philanthropic landscape. 

  • Present research, analysis, and recommendations through compelling storytelling, presentations, and data visualizations tailored to a variety of internal and external audiences. 

  • In coordination with department leadership, support engagement with philanthropic collaboratives and contribute to Pew’s knowledge base on partnership models and trends in philanthropy to strengthen Pew’s value proposition, inform Pew’s thought leadership and facilitate executive team and program team engagement.  

  • Generate actionable insights for the Partnerships team to develop philanthropic strategies. 

  • Surface opportunity for innovations in the Partnerships department around measurement and metrics and philanthropic collaboration models as appropriate, based on market trends and research findings. 

  • Stay informed on program priorities and emerging areas of exploration and keep department colleagues informed on trends in philanthropy.  

  • With the director, manager, and other departmental leadership, drive the definition and execution of special projects and initiatives as needed.  

Requirements  

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required; advanced degree preferred. 

  • Generally, eight years of professional experience, with a demonstrated track record of strong research, analytical, and data visualization skills and engaging in complex projects with creative, entrepreneurial and sophisticated relationship building.   

  • Strong client-service mindset with a focus on collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to define, co-create, and deliver high-quality deliverables. Experience in management consulting is preferred. 

  • Proven research and analytic skills, with the capacity to define the problem, investigate an issue and advance creative problem-solving. 

  • Proven ability to effectively toggle between deep and complex quantitative analysis and the translation of that analysis into clear and simple terms for a wide variety of audiences. 

  • A commitment to working in a deadline-driven, collaborative environment with respect for accountability and responsibility.  

  • Sound judgment and integrity; willingness to try new approaches; and a high level of enthusiasm and dedication to the mission and objectives of the institution. 

  • Demonstrated ability to be highly organized and manage multiple projects while maintaining clarity of focus and flexibility . Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing assigned duties. 

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in the use of software (Windows, Teams, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and the ability to learn technology used at Pew (e.g., PeopleSoft) if not already familiar. 

  • Experience with Salesforce and Tableau, including connecting databases, organizing and managing data, and building reports, dashboards, and other types of data visualizations; Tableau certification strongly preferred. Experience with other data visualization tools a plus. 

 

Travel 

Occasional travel to meetings and conferences may be required.
