Do you have experience in Peat Assessments or Contaminated Land Assessments? If so then we are looking for you! Offer can be made at Consultant or Senior Consultant level depending on experience. We have embraced hybrid working and you can be based from any of our 16 UK offices. ERM are seeking an enthusiastic and talented person for our expanding UK wide Engineering Team.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their career, work on a range of exciting multi-disciplinary projects within the renewable energy sectors and contribute to the climatic transition.

The role

As part of the well-established Engineering team distributed across our UK office network you will have opportunity to work on a range of renewable energy developments both in the UK and internationally. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced engineers to deliver a range of environmental assessments, field-based surveys and technical advice. A typical workload will involve responsibilities and tasks such as:

  • The production of Environmental Impact Assessment chapters, Peat Assessments and Outline Construction Environmental Management Plans within the renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure sectors
  • Undertaking field-based survey works such as walk over surveys, peat coring, dip well installation, peat probing and site inspections
  • Mentoring junior team members through providing technical advice, completing preliminary review of technical documents and professional development support
  • Support and facilitate business development through inputs into project tenders, including scoping schedules of works and completing preliminary baseline assessments of potential projects
  • Undertake Phase 1 ground condition desk study assessments including contaminated land and coal mining risk assessments
  • Analysis of spatial environmental datasets, producing figures and drawings and peat assessment utilising tools in GIS software
  • Working alongside experts from other environmental teams including ecology and biodiversity, landscape architecture, hydrology and peatland management teams to develop holistic environmentally friendly solutions
  • Analysing and contributing to technical design documents for renewable energy developments
  • Liaison with various stakeholders within the private and public sectors including renewable energy developers, environmental regulators and planning authorities

About you

  • Solid experience working within peat and geology assessment, contaminated land assessment, EIA or renewable energy
  • A relevant degree (including but not limited to Geology, Engineering Geology, Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Management, Environmental Science)
  • Knowledgeable in current practice and governing standards/guidance for the investigation and remediation of contaminated land
  • Familiarity with the production of Phase 1 geo-environmental desk top study reports incorporating a preliminary risk assessment
  • Competence in the use of GIS software (e.g. ArcGIS)
  • Familiarity with the planning process and Local Authority existing data acquisition
  • Any specific site works accreditations/qualifications held will be an advantage (e.g. CSCS, First Aid, CAT & Genny training etc)
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in planning, organising, and managing field work
  • Exemplary planning, organising and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

A full driving licence which allows you to drive in the UK & Ireland will be required for this role as the role requires extensive travel to remote locations within these countries. Please confirm if you have a valid licence on your CV/in your application.
