Based: Offices in London and High Wycombe with UK remote working available
Term: Permanent, Full time
Salary: Negotiable + excellent benefits
Focusrite is empowering more music makers.
We are looking for people to lead our engineering teams to build on our success, as we inspire artists around the world and remove barriers to their creativity.
The Role
At Focusrite, the Technical Lead is one of our most senior developers. They can be found leading and working in our teams, but also partnering with product and engineering management to ensure we are diligent about our trade-offs and that dependencies and communication are managed effectively and openly. We are looking for a Technical Lead to operate within our Focusrite Control software teams. They will be responsible for leading the evolution of the technical stack of our cross-platform applications as our strategic direction changes. This will require consideration of the high-level user interfaces, down to the lower-level networking protocols, and the layers of abstraction and concurrency that tie it all together. Whilst this is a leadership role, our Tech Leads are also be expected to contribute to our application codebases, pair and code review within our teams.
Tech Stack
This role will be looking at the evolution of our stack. These are some of the things we use currently:
- Modern C++ (17), JUCE, TypeScript
- Catch2, Jest
- CMake, Sparkle, WinSparkle
- GitHub, CircleCI, GitHub Actions
Person Specification
- A strong, technical background with experience designing and engineering desktop applications. Working with mobile applications is a bonus.
- Experience as a Senior Engineer.
- Demonstrate technical excellence, leading teams to sensible architectural decisions on the most complex technical problems.
- Embody our cultural values within the team and to teams across the wider organisation.
- Measure your own and your teams success in terms of business impact, not lines of code.
- Internalise the best ideas from across the organisation, humbly setting a vision that others can get behind.
- Embrace the DevOps culture: You build it, you run it.
- Earn trust from co-workers at all levels, working well cross-functionally.
- Prefer simple solutions and designs over complex ones.
- Challenge the status quo, but also get on board once the options have been debated and the team has made a decision.
- Think broadly, having the capability to see the potential impact of decisions across the wider business.
Behaviours we look for:
We embrace difference and know that when we can be ourselves at work, we are happier, more motivated, and creative. We want to be able to bring our whole selves to work, have our own perspectives and know that we belong. As such, through your behaviours at work, we expect you to reflect and actively sustain a healthy engineering environment that looks like this:
- A wide range of voices heard to the benefit of all.
- Teams that are clearly happy, engaged, and laugh together.
- Perceivable safety to have an opinion or ask a question.
