The Legal Department is responsible for advising the business on a variety of legal and regulatory matters relating to metals trading, associated products and services offered by the LME Group, and new initiatives.

The difference you will make
You will be:
  • Providing legal and regulatory advice in relation to the LME and the products and services offered by the LME. Prior experience in advising on commodity derivative products and on public law is not required, but an enthusiastic approach and willingness to learn are a must.
  • Supporting to the business and colleagues at all levels by working collaboratively with colleagues in LME Clear, the LME’s clearing house, and within cross-business stakeholder LME teams such as Regulation & Compliance, Market Access, Market Structure and Market Development.
  • Providing legal advice on key regulatory change programmes impacting the commodity derivatives regulatory framework.
  • Researching and analysing specific legal points on a broad variety of issues.
  • Proactively monitoring legal and regulatory changes that may impact the LME, and analysing and advising the business on the impact of such developments.
  • Drafting and contributing to responses to public consultations that impact the LME’s business.
  • Responding to queries from members of the LME on the LME Rules and other matters.
  • Managing external counsel with a view to obtaining optimal service whilst controlling costs.
What you will bring
  • You will be admitted in England & Wales or hold a Scottish or foreign jurisdiction equivalent.
  • Ideally you would have 2 to 5 years of post-qualification experience, but candidates outside of this range will be considered.
  • Ideally you will have worked for a city law firm in the UK and/or in-house at a financial services organisation (including but not limited to banks, investment firms and financial market infrastructure) and/or a trade body or regulator advising on wholesale financial regulation in the UK or in a foreign jurisdiction.
