Job Title: Engineer, Contractor Health & Safety 

Location: Corporate Office / Remote Eligible (25-50% travel required to mine sites)

Position Type: Full-Time

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Supply Chain, within the Supply Chain Department, this position is responsible for implementing and overseeing compliance to contractor safety management policies across Coeur’s mine sites. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Policy / Contractor Management Framework
    • SME of Contractor Safety Management policies for the Company.         Update policies and tools in conjunction with site safety and operations leadership to ensure best safety performance outcomes.
  • Contractor Safety Management:
    • Implement, and monitor compliance to Contractor Safety Management policies and procedures.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of contractor operations at all sites, providing written feedback to site and corporate management.
    • Participate in the investigation of incidents and accidents involving contractors and assist contractors / site to develop and implement appropriate corrective actions.
    • Working with the site management, identify potential hazards and conduct risk assessments for contractor activities to support sites.
    • Monitor implementation of risk mitigation strategies and follow up on corrective actions as assigned.
    • Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics and trends for contractors, including reporting to senior leadership.
  • Training & Development:
    • Engage with contractors and site teams to ensure that contractor onboarding is compliant with Company and jurisdiction requirements.
    • Develop and deliver training materials to both site teams and contractors on Company safety initiatives and best practices.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact and liaison for all contractor safety issues.
    • Work closely with site managers, project managers, and contractors to ensure safety standards are met.
    • Facilitate safety meetings and communicate safety updates and initiatives.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Ensure that contractor / supplier databases are current and that non-compliances are communicated for action.
    • Maintain accurate electronic records of safety inspections, incident investigations, and training.
    • Prepare and present safety performance reports to senior management.
    • Ensure documentation complies with regulatory and company standards.
    • Support administration for the Company’s third-party insurance and health & safety verification service.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Post secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (demonstrable experience may be considered).
  • Certifications:
    • Certification in HSE or eligible to obtain same (CMSP - Certified Mine Safety Professional or ASP - Associate Safety Professional) is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety or field supervision role working with contractors in mining, construction, or other heavy industries.
    • Proven track record of implementing safety programs and policies in multi-site operations.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of MSHA and OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
    • Excellent communication, training, and presentation skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Valid driver’s license
  • Travel:
    • Ability to travel (up to 50%) as required.

  • Must be able to work in varying conditions, including outdoor and industrial environments.
  • Ability to function effectively in remote working environment.
