Senior Internal/External Communications & Engagement Expert

As a Senior Internal/External Communications & Engagement Expert you will be the contact person for corporate functions and will be driving strategic corporate programs and projects. The team Internal/External communications & engagement focuses on driving internal engagement, in- and external communication concerning strategic organisational issues, and strengthening the reputation of ING Netherlands. You’ll be responsible for the corporate strategic all staff matters (e.g. support and advise on CLA comms and people engagement) as well as leadership communications in cooperation with the other teams within the Brand Experience, Marketing & Communications Centre of Expertise (BMC CoE). You’ll report to the expert lead Internal/External Communications & Engagement.

The team
The team Internal/External Communications & Engagement that is in development currently, consists of 10 professionals. The activities of this team include corporate/external communications, all-staff and leadership communications, advice on the use of internal and external channels, engagement in internal sponsorship activation and communications advice including support for the business segments. The Internal/External Communications & Engagement team is part of the Centre of Expertise Brand Experience, Marketing & Communications (CoE BMC). The CoE BMC is home to communications experts in the fields of branding, advertising, media, sponsoring, events, internal and external communications, media relations and issue management. 

Role and responsibilities

As a Senior Internal/External Communications & Engagement Expert you provide well-founded and actionable internal and external communication advice, especially on impactful and/or strategic corporate issues. You deliver creative solutions, in the most optimal form and within the right channels. In addition, you ensure a smooth organisation and execution. 

In this role, you are responsible for:

• advice to ING Netherlands’ board members/business segments on strategic corporate and organisational issues;
• implementation of your advice by a streamlined organisation and execution;
• driving corporate external/internal and engagement programs & activities;
• leadership communication (facilitating leadership in communication role);
• positioning leadership within the organisation;
• engagement in internal sponsorship activation.

Naturally, this will also involve correct alignment with the various other teams that are part of the BMC CoE. You’ll work in close alignment with ING Group’s internal/external communications team on topics that go beyond the scope of ING Netherlands alone and will become part of a global network of more than 500 brand, marketing and communications professionals.

How to succeed
You’re an experienced, decisive, energetic, and connecting internal/external communications professional who loves to combine strategy and execution. You love innovation, and you’re solution-driven and creative with a flexible mindset. Teamwork comes naturally to you. You’ve got a proven track record of and affinity with advising boards and senior management in a business environment, as well as communication craftsmanship.

You also have the following:

• A university or higher professional (HBO) degree, preferably in communication sciences, corporate communications, branding and/or marketing (with a focus on the corporate/external side).
• Passion for internal/external organisation communications and engagement.
• At least 5-7 years’ experience in a senior communications role in complex environments.
• Extensive proven track record in corporate internal and external communications, change-related communications in major national/international organisations with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Extensive track record of giving strategic advice (at board level).
• Extensive track record of stakeholder management.
• Eagerness to learn in an organisation that is itself continually learning.
• Creativity and innovative ideas, and you’re always up to speed on new developments in the field.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Empathy with the company.
• Excellent written and oral skills in Dutch and English.
