Overview
  • In February 2024, the CDC Foundation was awarded federal funds from U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), through the Association of Public Health Laboratories, to launch the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI). The goal of WAI is to strengthen public health authorities’ (PHA) capacity to deliver information system improvements that are of top priority to each PHA by adding technology and data experts to their teams. The CDC Foundation desires to enhance its capacity to support and provide technical assistance to PHAs. To support these efforts, the Senior Training and Engagement Manager will support the WAI implementation team, and the work of PHAs to ensure that appropriate calibration between WAI placed employee needs, technical competency standards and available subject matter resources. The Senior Training and Engagement Manager will be responsible for supporting the vision and direction for all training and technical assistance provided to WAI team. The incumbent in this role is responsible for the development of learning solutions for WAI staff and various external audiences. The successful applicant will help build and promote WAI’s agile, intellectually driven workforce allowing them to succeed efficiently and effectively in an ambitious, team-based environment. Remote candidates will be considered; however, frequent attendance at in-person team meetings in Atlanta and across the US may be required. 

  • Responsibilities
  • Lead and support the implementation of all WAI training opportunities, including the identification, implementation, and continued assessment of program-wide training materials (i.e. webinars, training plans, etc.) and technical assistance needs.
  • Provide guidance to the WAI learning community leads related to planning, implementation, and performance tracking of WAI learning communities, in addition to serving as a co-facilitator as needed.
  • Lead the WAI online learning management system, including tracking metrics of completion across teams.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Directors of Data Workforce and Data Modernization to oversee the onboarding curriculum for new PHAs, including the development, implementation, and review of post-survey evaluations for continued program improvement.
  • Support the development and implementation of opportunities for WAI Teams to collaborate across the WAI program.
  • Organize and execute webinars and other forms of training to address training and technical assistance needs as identified by WAI staff, management, and partners.
  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of the annual WAI Conference, including attending all planning committee meetings, implementing and reviewing conference surveys, supporting the development of agendas and materials, and other tasks as needed.  
  • Collaborate with WAI leadership team to identify and implement improvements for PHA program engagement and cross-collaboration.
  • Represent the CDC Foundation and the project team at meetings and events.
  • Participate in and/or lead special projects or other duties as assigned. 

  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in public health, social sciences, or instructional design.
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant professional experience with at least five (5) years of work in curriculum design and/or learning and development.
  • Experience developing training materials; implementing in-person and virtual technical assistance trainings; and evaluating efficacy of materials and trainings for nationwide public health programs.
  • Strong experiential knowledge of adult learning principles and learning science theories.
  • Experience providing in-person and remote technical assistance to individuals, programs or awardees.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating effectively across diverse audiences and providing strong customer service.
  • Excellent organization and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with competing timelines.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating virtual meetings.
  • Ability to take initiative and be a creative problem-solver.
  • Demonstrated experience working with remote partners and teams.
  • Familiar with using data collection techniques, needs assessments, learner analysis, and research to analyze and assess learning outcomes and improve individual and organizational performance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Drive and Zoom.
