  • Applicants will only be considered if they possess at least 2 years' experience in hospital coding.*

Responsibilities:

  • Review and verify coding accuracy prior to billing system submission using CCI edits.
  • Assign ICD-10, CPT, and DSM IV codes based on coding guidelines and principles.
  • Utilize ACEP acuity level guidelines for ED coding.
  • Maintain continuing education through seminars and updated guidelines.
  • Aim for 98% coding accuracy within the first year.
  • Efficiently code diagnoses and procedures using available documentation.
  • Utilize hospital information systems and correct any errors.
  • Refer problem accounts to appropriate personnel.
  • Track productivity and workflow.
  • Accurately assign codes for diagnoses and procedures.
  • Identify incomplete documentation and formulate queries.
  • Consult with DRG Specialist as needed.
  • High School or GED equivalent.
  • Completed an AHIMA or AAPC-certified Coding program, Bidwell Training School or equivalent program.
    • Curriculum includes Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Medical Terminology, ICD-9-CM and CPT Coding Guidelines and Procedures. Inpatient: Pharmacology & pathophysiology coursework required.
  • 2 years hospital coding experience required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Eligible for RHIA, RHIT, CCS

  • Act 34
